Vietnam | Glory Obscured Beta Tester: Popular Vietnam War fan, and has been for a few years. I also like real time strategy games, such as C&C Generals Zero Hour. But over time the online got boring, so I decided to look into game mods. Then I came across V|GO. It was excellent. After a month or two of playing the mod I decided to apply for Beta Testing. A few days later, I was accepted. Then the next month, I began Testing. That's where we are now.
Journal of a British Officer (Flames of The Empire)
(11th October, 1899)
Earlier the independent Boer states of Transvaal and the Orange Free State, declared war on the British Empire. President Kruger has asked for a war, and if it's a war he wants, it's a war he will get.
(12th October, 1899)
It is a disaster. The stupidity of our king's empire has failed us. Transvaal and her Orange Free State ally has managed to invade us. By invading us whilst we were off guard, they broke through our lines before we could secure the 3 routes of invasion into the Cape Colony and Natal. I am being shipped out towards the town of Glencoe, and must pray that the lord spares me there...

It was a hard fought battle at Dundee today. First Boer shelling by artillery, then Boer rifle fire coming down from the hill of Talana Hill, then more artillery and cavalry flankings as we charged up the hills surrounding our Dundee garrison. I was lucky enough to survive, but many of us weren't. The Boers have since retreated, and we must head south to save our men surrounded at Ladysmith. God spare me and my men a few more days.
(21st October, 1899)
As we continued the march to establish contact with Ladysmith, we had a large engagement between our cavalry and Boer infantry and artillery. As our men passed through Elandslaagte in poor weather, we trotted right over the top of Boer infantry camping out there. Our men were shot trying to cut through the wires between our horses and the Boers. We cleared them out however shortly after and they retreated, being chased down by our Lancers galloping behind. However, as a Boer retreated, he turned around on his horse, fired a well aimed shot with his Mauser rifle, and wounded me, putting me out of action for a while. Once again I evaded death. Guess God is with me. But nevertheless we must retreat as 10000 Boers have been spotted approaching.

Today we go to Ladysmith. Will I ever see the city, alive? God?

AHHHHHHHHHH BIGFOOT RUN FOR YOUR LIFE!!!!
I live in Cape Town. Cant help thinking that it would have been better off if the British had kept South Africa as a colony and that they had won the war. One thinks that Apartheid may never have been started and also we would have a better government. The crew at the moment are not doing much that is for sure
They did win the Boer War, but yeah they ended up throwing South Africa away as a colony after a century of effort that got them there. I agree to some extent it would have been. Apartheid probably wouldn't of began, there would be less corruption and the streets probably wouldn't have been as violent.
