You can now collect shield bonuses (see top middle) - every shield will save your life once in case you manage to miss the flying object. I was bit hesitant to add this level of complexity, but it certainly adds to gameplay: you can decide to either collect slowdown or more rare shield, and both have their advantage in the different phases of the game progress. Or then you can't make up your mind fast enough, and miss everything!
