The Cursed Forest

Game review

I cannot recommend this game enough. It has solid ambiance, a great atmosphere, when there WAS music it was great. It had a creepy and eerie setting as well as a great pacing. It starts off slow and gradually intensifies as you go along. Jump scares make sense for where they are and aren't just there for cheap scares... Well with the exception of the haunted lumber bin. That was just silly. But since it's early in the game, I can assume it was the creator experimenting and just kept it there afterwards. Because why not? The ending, without giving anything away, was one that I found very satisfying and it wrapped things up without any loose ends.

Only two things could have made this game better.

1) A save function for those without the time to finish it in one sitting. I had to make the time to play this game in one sitting when normally I'd prefer to split it up. I do admit however, that splitting things up would significantly take from the experience.

2) Usually when the camera was moved for me, I understood that and was okay with it. It was to show me what was happening to me at that time. I understand many people complained that it took from them the ability to just run with no regard as to why. But that's a problem. You should know what you're scared of and why or else you're missing part of the experience. There was one moment in the game, however, that it didn't make it clear that your camera was being moved. It was instantaneous and you still maintained control of your character during it. As such, I died about ten times before I realized that the camera was changing while I was still in control, and as such I was walking right into my death. That is the only time I had an issue with the forced camera control.

Definitely give this game a shot, but don't skip on the add ons. You'll especially want the English patch. No point if you don't know what's going on, right?
