Improvements:

In the most recent development cycle we have focused on finalizing the gameplay loop and smoothing out previous mechanics from our alpha version. We've redesigned the home screen to be more engaging and user-friendly. The new layout features improved button mechanics and an updated background that is a better fit of our new graphics style. To enhance the playing experience, we've also implemented smoother and more fluid scene transitions with a brand new starting animation that sets the tone for playing the actual game. These changes ensure a seamless flow, reducing any jarring jumps between gameplay and cutscenes, thus maintaining the game's suspenseful atmosphere and keeping players deeply immersed in the story.

Another major focus for Beta was improving our enemy, both movement and its interaction with the player. Enemies now move with a more natural pattern and a new death animation and sound triggers helps the player know sooner when they are being attacked. This improvement not only makes the game more challenging but also adds a realistic touch to the enemies' behaviors, increasing the thrill and tension during encounters.

Recognizing the complexity of navigating a haunted dorm, we've introduced an updated guidance system. It includes subtle hints and highlighted texts to help new players understand game mechanics and storyline elements better, ensuring a smooth and enjoyable learning curve. Finally we've fine-tuned the mechanics of using the spray can and lighter as weapons. The updated mechanism offers a more intuitive and satisfying combat experience. Players can now more effectively wield these tools against enemies, adding a strategic layer to gameplay and enhancing the overall excitement of confrontations.

These updates reflect our commitment to creating an engaging and immersive horror adventure. We're excited to see how these enhancements elevate the "Wisp" experience for our players.

What’s the Motivation?

Our primary goal with these changes is to enhance the overall player experience. The new home screen and smoother transitions make navigating the game more intuitive, while the improved enemy AI ups the ante on suspense and challenge. By refining the guidance system, we aim to make "Wisp" more welcoming to newcomers, ensuring they don't miss any crucial elements of the story that we have developed. The enhanced player animations and visuals are all about immersion, pulling you deeper into the eerie world of Wisp. Lastly, the upgraded weapon mechanics with the spray can and lighter not only make gameplay more fluid but also add a unique twist to combat, distinguishing "Wisp" from other horror games.

What’s Next?

Looking ahead, our team is focused on smoothing out movement and reducing lag spikes for an improved experience during release. Additionally, we're experimenting with improved indicators to help players continue to progress and avoid getting stuck in the puzzle room. Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to shape "Wisp" into a thrilling adventure that will keep you on the edge of your seat!

This week has seen a significant shift in our development focus as we are closing in on the final stages of Wisp's development timeline. We've honed in on the finer details, making key tweaks to enhance the overall player experience. Key changes include refined game mechanics for smoother interactions, the addition of immersive content such as subtle animations and enhanced lighting effects, and adjustments to in-game text for better clarity and guidance. Additionally, we are ramping up our marketing efforts to build anticipation and excitement among our future players. As we put the final touches on Wisp, we're ensuring that every element, big or small, aligns with our vision of delivering a truly memorable adventure horror experience.

Motivation

Our motivation behind these changes is rooted in our commitment to delivering a polished and engaging experience for our release at the video game showcase. As we approach the end of our development cycle, our aim is to ensure that every aspect of Wisp is intuitive and contributes to a cohesive and atmospheric journey through the world we have created. We believe that the devil is in the details, and it's these subtle enhancements that will elevate the overall gameplay, making it not just a game but an immersive adventure. Our project is headed towards a phase where the player's journey through the haunted dorm is not just about survival, but also about being part of a story that unfolds with each step and interaction.

Looking Ahead

Even though the official timeline will be finished we hope to continue to work on the game. In our next iteration, our focus will remain on refining and polishing existing elements. We plan to conduct thorough playtesting sessions to identify any remaining areas for improvement, particularly focusing on player guidance and the effectiveness of the in-game hints.
