It is back, and better than ever. Coming to an old dusty PSP near you.
I've been playing with the menu background and I came up with this infinite forerunner hallway idea. What do you guys think? If you guys like it i'll stick with it and maybe enhance it a bit.
Awesome! I like it :)
Texture is not little high for PSP Phat ? (not about PPSSPP)
Not at all, those are 128x128 textures. Even so, I got a lot more wiggle room for a menu than actual game maps with bullets and AI and particles.
Oh nice, can I be translate English to French for Campaign ? I don't know if you have a translator for this language.
There won't be a campaign this release. Just a Slayer and Team Slayer with bots.
Any multiplayer? (online)
Unfortunately the netcode is broken in the current build and I cannot figure it out what so ever. It is line for line exactly identical to Kurok's netcode
Bummer, I bet there is atleast one reason it isnt working. It also possible the netcode from kurok wasn't working in the first place, or while adding more content and updating it broke the netcode. Chances are its going to be one small thing.
Pretty interesting! Though it seems a bit spooky
Love it! Maybe this could be the Firefight main menu and the old one could be the custom games menu...
If I were to do that you would have to load it as it would be a different map. I don't think anyone would like loading screens just by switching game modes.
o, yea, didn't think about that
Couldn't you have it teleport from one section to the other?
Mixing Menu interfaces with different camera entities on maps is not simple. Trust me, We tried before.
"is not simple"
Yet completely worth it. Right Ghost?
A lot of stuff that is worked on here is worth it. Its just the pain of making it WORK that kills it.
Pain is just weakness leaving the body.
To a certain extend yea. Making an infinite hallway is not something quake is exactly tuned for. With a little wit and jerry rigging I made it happen. I could probably teleport a player to different sections. However I want the map for the menu simple, because thats a loading screen for the menu, I'd like to keep the map's filesize small to reduce loading time.
Ah I wouldn't worry too much about that. Nobody will cry over a couple extra seconds for a load screen.
personally, it'll keep me up at night... but I probably won't complain
I didn't say anything about sleepless nights though.
I honestly would have to recode a few things QC and Engine side. Alot of basic player functionality is disabled in the menu. In fact the only real purpose of the player even being present in the menu is for the "camera" and to create and hold a client slot so that the menu acts as a matchmaking lobby.
We can work magic, not miracles
I'm just happy that there's someone working on Solitude PSP. I personally like the last background, as it has a higher sense of immersion. The subtle movement and colour palette agrees with me.
Its good, but it should stop somewhere. Think of it alike the menus of Metro Last Light or Sniper Elite.
As nice as this looks, seeing this while browsing maps will get old/dizzying after a while
well, would be cool if it changed depending on the menu you are in, but thats asking too much, as it is its great
I might play around with it and see what I can do. But in all reality i should stop doing fancy stuff and continue making the game ready for a release.
yeah, true, also, how's the work on the ai going
I tried fixing them a bit, but in certain areas its hard for me to mess with them seeing as I only know a handful of C to get me by and QC being what I know most and the bots are engine based (C). Ideally I would like to strip the engine of the bots and move back to QC bots, my own custom bots. I don't see that happening this release but maybe in the future. I might still play with them if everything else goes smoothly
For some reason, playing the music from the Black Ops 1 Interrogation room, is surprisingly fitting with the video...
With everyone asking for a different background depending on different scenarios why not make the background into a gif? If anything render the background beforehand has you have so far and then record it and turn it into a gif. Then it could be as easy as having a fold full of the .gif files ranging from 1 to 20 (just an example). This would also unlock the ability to make a custom background for mods (and easily).
Or better with video .MP4 or .WMA because It's less pixel and better quality with sound than .gif
True true, but it would still be better than a lagging background and it adds more functionality :)
That would mean adding support for it in the engine, as well as making an interactive menu while that plays. Not that simple as you think.
