It's based off of the mansion from resident evil 1. lol I want it to be detailed, and yes I think the brush work may bring up map size, but we will just wait and see ^_^
Its not going to be as detailed if you use a texture, nor would you be able to shoot through it. Professionals don't do that, I don't know about you guys. If it turns out to be a big map size, I will downgrade it to that. But as of right now, I want nice details.
I know the psp won't handle it well. Iv'e been mapping for how long? That has nothing to do with the pc version. I am going to optimize it for the psp. -.-
Ok does Halo 3 or Cod6 use textures on a single brush for that stuff? Does Left 4 Dead do that? I understand that the psp can't handle it, but I can easily change it for the psp version.
Of course when we do release the map if we ever get this beta out, we will optimize it. This is not final or near final! Lots more optimization is needed, and ofcourse the psp would get low frame rate on this map. We are just showing the current state, and gangangel=lolwut? This ain't about what "Professionals do" (Whatever you mean by pros, game devs do that....) Its about gameplay.
Everyone wants detail and good maps, and when I do it someone always has a problem. Thats why the school map doesn't have a lot of detail, it's over 1.7 mb as is. You complain that I don't put enough detail into my maps, and now you complain that it's too much like I don't realize that I will have to downgrade the maps to a suitable manner for the psp.
Don't take what I said the wrong way, Im only trying to warn you so that you wont have to spent extra time trying to get it to work on the psp.
Its important to take into account how your map will be played when you make it. For example as the game is nazi zombies their are gonna be alot of zombies on screen at one, that will put alot of strain on the psp's hardware. So knowing that that's what your map will have to take you will need to make the necessary scarfices to ease the load on the psp and to ensure a playable frame-rate.
In this case one thing to do is to use alpha masking to reduce the amount of tris that need to be rendered.
Rather than resident evil 1 it reminds me of a map i made in timespliters future perfect but it has some nice brushwork and potential to be a good nzp map
Nice, but isn't that railing taking up a lot of polys?
Its all brushwork :3
Faceplam, Brushwork is still polys, learn how the compilers work. Hint the map as you see it in worldcraft is not how its seen to the engine.
lol I think thats some sexy "brushwork" :3
No, not really its all simple geometry.
Why the **** was Arkage -1'd for those? He is right.
Well, as long as it is a wip, we can still change it right? :P
In the end, it'll probably become one long plane with a texture.
Yes, mostly i use tranparent textures for that. Newer games do too. (for LOD'ing that is :P)
wow, really nice work. I must say tho, individual railing is a bit much, I would make it a transparent texture on a flat surface.
Really really nice.
I SAW THIS FIRST AT THE CHAT,anyways looks nice :)
I iz saw in chat 2... :/
i like it :P (even thought i saw t before you monstar :P )
btw mitch... by gangangel :O made me laugh
well haha *grumble*still think i saw first*
I like it. Reminds me of the big German Mansions that were around during the war.

yea just use a transparent texture...

"Professionals don't do that" Oh, really, go play some games and look how at the maps are made.
"But as of right now, I want nice details." Then kiss good bye to a playable frame rate.

The PSP can take alot more than most would think.
nice
Resident Evil Mansion?
Yep ;)
Yeah, he posted it in the forum, should of put in the context of this info here too though. Overall, I think it's his best work.
lol, wheres the typewriter? couldn't you make the rails a texture?
LOL, maybe he should add that in once the map is complete.
why? no one would get it for the one single fix.
He could, but..it kills the mood, major.. Thats more of a distant thing, to do in maps.

You can still make ways for detailed and good performance ;P
yeah, and the giant file size is probably due to my giant textures :P
It was still 1.6 mb after trimming the textures down to dev blocks( school map).

Yes I know, I'm showing what I can do with my maps. I am going to fix it up for the psp, no problems.

Thanks :)
Ah, possibly my favourite game of all time. Can't beat a bit of Resi :)
