Toll Of The Dead is a game set in the middle of a war, with a focus on the narrative and puzzles along the play trough.
Our game focuses on the perspective of a soldier who's tired and feels lost in the middle of a war, but he realizes that his friend is missing, so he goes on to search for him.
This project's team members are:
- Project Manager: Bernardo Jerónimo
- Game designer: Carolina Matos
- Game Artist: Daniela Peixoto
- Game developers: Pedro Batista, João Fernandes
The narrative of the game had to be based on the song "For Whom The Bell Toll" by Metallica, so that was where our focus for the first week of development went.
We first looked at how we could implement the song into a game, and we used the aspect of war that was conveyed in the song to create a narrative. As I had written, you will play from the perspective of a soldier who feels tired and lost and is ready to give up, but he realizes his friend is missing and finds resolve to go save him.
The game will have a heavy tone, and reality about war will be conveyed through dialogue or scenery. We will also add a puzzle in the game.
The game will progress like this ( This isnt the final story progressio):
Intruduction cutscene ->-> Realizing his friend is missing->-> Walking and running into soldiers and asking for clues ->-> Look for clues, with a mechanic that worked directly with this action ->-> Find the soldiers missing friend
We have also worked on the art of the game wich I will be showing now:
- This is our logo and it was inspired from the cover of the Album "Ride The Lightning", wich is where the music ""For Whom The Bell Toll" was published in.
2. This is our protagonist "The Soldier" and his animation.
This are the NPCS.
3. This is the backgrounds art
3.1 This is a barricade.
The conclusion of our first week of work is that we did the art, established the narrative and outline for the game and we have started working on a playable demo.
We will be back next week with another update!
