Our game is a Metroidvania game where the protagonist, a little girl called Signy, is transported to a forest with a lot of cute but dangerous enemies. Signy needs to fight against enemies and gain new abilities to find a way out.

Summary of new changes to our game and our next iteration plan

For the past four weeks, we have been creating a Metroidvania pixel game where our cute little girl is exploring a world with a mix of cute and dangerous enemies. The girl can get abilities to double jump, block, block to jump, and even shoot arrows! In the past week, specifically, we built 4 new rooms with many checkpoints and 2 more enemies to make our game more in accord with our story and mechanics. A player can also better utilize their new abilities in each room and with new enemies. The difficulty curve of the game is more smooth compared with our old room settings. We also added NPCs for tutorials instead of using plain text hints. It feels more natural to let NPC tell the player what to do. We added some particle effects to help the player better understand the mechanic such as the energy bar and energy attack. We added a sound system to player actions such as jumping and attacking. We also added a health bar to each enemy to show their remaining health and to give better positive feedback for player attack. We hope players can better enjoy our game!

For the next iteration, we plan to make bosses and more rooms in higher difficulty levels. We also want to make some cutscenes for better storytelling. The sound system still needs improvement, because it has not covered all actions yet. We are also seeking some aesthetic help to make our game look better.
