So the team behind (your favorite sites!) ModDB, IndieDB and Desura have just launched a new site in partnership with IndieGames.com. Called Indie Royale, it is a bundle site featuring four awesome indie games every two weeks, making them collectively available for a heavily discounted price.
The early bird gets the worm!
Indie Royale uses a unique pricing mechanism, think of it as a game of purchasing discounted games! The overall price of the bundle will gradually increase with each purchase so as they say first come - best dressed! Do not fear however! Our faith in the human condition is so strong we have even implemented a way for the extremely rich to help the penny savers among us, the more generously you give the more the fixed price will lower! For more information make sure you check out our FAQ!
Whats on the menu?
Here are the splendid Indie titles being served up in the premiere Indie Royale bundle, predictably called The Launch Bundle. Wadjet Eye Games' Gemini Rue. A previous Independent Games Festival finalist, the Joshua Nuernberger-created title is a moody, classic 2D adventure game, with a futuristic sci-fi setting and hand-drawn backgrounds galore. Also included in this initial Launch Bundle is acclaimed FPS tower defence title Sanctum, which includes four-player co-op in its fast-paced action palette, as well as underappreciated 'Metroidvania'-esque Dream Build Play winner A.R.E.S.: Extinction Agenda, and Noumenon Games' acclaimed, ingenious puzzle/racing game Nimbus.
If you are apart of a fresh and unique Indie development team and you would like to participate in the bundles should contact the team via the website's contact form at: Indieroyale.com.
"If you are apart of a fresh and unique Indie development team and you would like to participate in the bundles should contact the team via the website's contact form at" you probably meant "a_part".
Anyway, just for completeness you could also mention the DLC bonuses (Penetrator, Violator & Killing Floor Sanctum DLC).
Good luck!
Once again I'd get it if I could. I played the Sanctum demo, and I'd love to have the full game.
just incredible!! thank you!
awesome stuff
Bundlemania! :D
Someone is following Humble Indie Bundle steps... *hint* ;)
Good luck then.
I brought this to discover that it doesn't run on Linux. It is really deceptive marketing to call this an Indie bundle if it cannot run independently of Microsoft software.
Don't waste your money on this.
I am pretty sure you can demand a refund, if you do not like what you purchased.
This is what their FAQ says: "We're sorry you're not happy with your bundle. Please contact us via the contact page (http://www.indieroyale.com/contact) with your key and email address, and we'll get you a refund asap."
I do agree, though, that it would be nice to see some more precise descriptions at the bundle page. For instance
"available on: windows only, desura, steam"
or even
"available on: windows only, desura (windows only), steam (windows only) "
as these services also provide Linux and Mac software.
I personally bought the bundle during the start of the second hour when Sanctum was (if I recall correctly)
"available on: windows, steam"
that mislead me to thinking I could download it directly, which I could not. Still I am happy with my purchase as other three games do have direct download option and the total price is quite good. As for Sanctum - well, I might just try it via Steam than.
In general I feel that this bundle is somewhat "raw" (service-wise, for instance), but I see the guys trying their best (remember the DLC threshold shift up and down?) and I very much hope they will get everything sorted out, smoothed and improved for further bundles.
While I highly support Linux as a developer, it's a false assumtption that an "indie bundle" HAS to support linux. Indie bundle simply means that it's a bundle of indie games.
Their site nowhere mentions nor markets that it supports the Linux platform therefore it's not deceptive at all sir. Making statements like that is really not nice towards developers that provide really cheap deals like this.
Anyway, well done guys. Glad to see more people supporting bundles! =)
I cannot claim to have ever done game development, but I am doing kernel programming right now. Considering that kernel developers usually provide patches to everyone for free while game developers usually charge for their work, I am curious which of us is more qualified to lecture the other on how to treat those who provide "really cheap deals".
Anyway, I always happy to see people supporting open source software.
You were wrong to assume Indie meant Linux friendly and to claim it's a waste of money because you personally didn't get what you were hoping for is just silly. Also (unless it was added after this complaint which was made an hour ago) it states clearly what platforms it supports. At $3.52 this is an incredible deal :/
Future bundles will contain a mix of Linux + Mac games - when we can get them.
Happy to issue a refund, so just email support@indieroyale.com and we shall.
taken from wikipedia.org:
Independent video games (commonly referred to as indie games) are video games created by individuals or small teams without video game publisher financial support. Indie games often focus on innovation and rely on digital distribution
Basicaly an andie game is not a platform independant game...
but you probably already know this at this point...
I love andie games.
Just to keep this news thread up to date - the last surprise of the The Launch Bundle has just been announced - it is a Berzerker Suit DLC for A.R.E.S. The DLC was addend to all bundles starting from now (for past and future customers).
i bought it assuming sanctum was the only windows only game. my bad.
If they ever end up on linx&desura i may look at them again.
Well, you can demand a refund, if you want to. This is what their FAQ says: "We're sorry you're not happy with your bundle. Please contact us via the contact page (http://www.indieroyale.com/contact) with your key and email address, and we'll get you a refund asap."
When I purchased this bundle, it fixed my broken legs, but more importantly, this bundle brought my family back together.
Thank you Indie Royal, for giving us world peace with every purchase.
I think this is the best and look forward to the future deals greatly.
ahh your comments brighten my day.
Bought and (forced) a bunch of friends to buy! Great initiative guys, looking forward to other bundles.
So... the Launch Bundle is over. I hope and think it was a success. Watching the progress was quite entertaining with all the constant price fluctuations. I wander, though, whether or not you are planning on publishing any statistics (e.g. total amount of money raised or "real" average price).
Meanwhile, during a white night of work watching the bundle wrap up I had a little idea that I wanted to share. It goes approximately like this:
Since you have already announced the future bundles (which is a great way of rising the hype) why not have at a certain point a small contest for promotion during the cooldown period? I have already seen people on the Internet get together and discuss what could be included into future bundles. So why not make, say, a competition with bets where users (e.g. on Desura or on Facebook) could actually discuss and subsequently submit their variants for future bundles (e.g. in the form of "I think the REALLY BIG bundle will include Trine 2, Torchlight 2, Terraria and BRINK"). Than those who would guess the right answer first would get either a free bundle (for e.g. 5 first people who name the games right) or a discount code, which would allow them to buy the bundle at a starter 1.99 price. But since people would not know whether they were right or not till the start of the bundle, they would still be tensely anticipating, which is what you need, I guess.
Of course, now you are probably overwhelmed with work, but maybe this idea could be helpful for the future.
Good luck with the preparations for the next bundle!
eeeeeee who has time for all these games, lucky bastiches, i hate u
Good idea to have bundles but please make sure they include games that run on Linux! Cheers!
the last bundle has linux but only for one game for now. so what i understand is the linux version for the other games will be coming right??
I think they have mentioned a number of times that there is no schedule for porting any of the bundle games to Linux.
