KDTD is set in the world of Axtentia. You are a dwarven warrior, living in the underground city of Martha’s Rest, located deep beneath the ancient mountain Olmek. The glorious city of Martha’s Rest was build atop the passages and corridors of a previous dwarven city, Rochombre, whose inhabitants have vanished millennia ago with no trace or clue as to what befell them. The citizens of Martha’s Rest have sealed off the gate leading to the Rochombre ruins below their city, and carried on with their lives, happy under the rule of King Branium Hurlrock.
A group of gnomish archeologists, with permission from the King, ventured into Rochombre to see if anything can be learned about the culture and history of its previous inhabitants. With true gnomish lack of concern, these archaeologists went and tapped on stones best left untapped, opening a demonic ultra-planar gateway… releasing devilish creatures intent on destroying Martha’s Rest and its citizens, just as they destroyed Rochombre millennia ago. One gnome manage to make his way back from Rochombre, and with his dying breath he exhaled the name of this new enemy – the Bhaal Shaazia.
Your king has summoned you, brave warrior, to enter into the dark levels below Martha’s Rest, and stop the Bhaal Shaazia from reaching Martha’s Rest.
