When we started to think about this game, we needed to create a coherent world where the player could identify easily the characters. So we quickly agreed that a medieval/fantasy world could works really great. Everybody knows it.
We didn't had a story at this point but the bard and the knight really come up as some very good heroes.
So we created a small story because even with a puzzle game we can tell something to the player.
Then Bardadum: The Kingdom Roads tells the story about two friends ; a bard and a knight in quest for recognition after being fooled by a nasty witch.
As the narrative aspect wasn't the main part of the game we decided to tell it through pictures illustrating transitions between every worlds.
Hey! We also have a story about the name of the game.
The code name was "Noways" but it didn't pleased everyone (specifically me!). It's often hard to change a project name when you've been used to a previous one for a long time. But we did a battle/vote session and three names appeared : "No Way!" (darn it ! >.<), "Bardadum" and "Kingdom Roads".
I killed two team mates and Bardadum won the battle!
Well not really... we simply agreed for Bardadum which fit with the cartoon style of the game and the bard hero. As we really liked "Kingdom Roads" we decided to keep it as the subhead.
See ya friends!
