Today's biggest headline news is that Steam Greenlight is now defunct and will switch over to Steam Direct next month.
Will the Giant Hamsters rise up even further or will the Tiny Rhinos get a chance with the new system?
Here are my thoughts.
=> No Middle Man.
=> No Voting => Direct to Market.
=> No Marketing Greenlight Campaign.
=> Recoupable Fee (You get fee back).
=> Recoupable Fee maybe set too High and will become a HUGE Barrier for indie developers.
=> You might start seeing, "Kickstarter for Steam Direct" Campaigns.
=> You might get large amounts of crappy indie games.
=> Sales is based on their Discovery Algorithm, and indie gems may or may not be highlighted due to algorithm.
Do you think living in the present state of Steam is good for the indie scene or wish it was like old times?
It's like a wild goose chase now. The flood gates have opened with everyone now allowed to pickup powerups and rank up their High Score or it could trap indie developers like in this gif of my game.
