So we have reached the point in Trixie's development where we tackle the task of game tutorials or in our case Game Hints. Tutorials sound like so much work for the gamer. It feels like I have to learn something. Game Hints feel more like I'm cheating or something. Way more fun don't you think.
Below are the 5 tips that we are using to make game hints more fun and less work for the player.
First off we have cut the text down to the bare minimum. Nobody wants to read they wish to play.
Second we made it so a simple 2 second animation shows you what to do.
Third you must do the task in a mock game environment to move forward.
Fourth you will only learn needed tasks as they are needed so not to over whelm the player.
And finally as each task is introduced the player will have several levels to get familiar and comfortable with the task before more is asked from the player.
Sounds logical but it's tougher to do than you might think. These new game hints will replace the current text instructions in the next release some time next week. Also as promised the new "Bird Poop" obstacle will be in there. Look for it and let us know how we are doing.
