Thundering Skies is a fast-paced, arcade-like 16-bit shoot 'em up inspired mostly by - you guessed it - the Thunder Force series. With 6 stages, 4 difficulty levels, challenging bosses and minibosses and pixelated graphics with adjustable scanlines for that lovely CRT effect, this game feels and plays like something straight from the pre-bullet hell days - with some new ideas thrown in.
Released on 5/14.
Thundering Skies is an arcade shmup that tries to replicate the look and fell from the great shooters from the late eighties and early nineties, while also attempting to have its own personality.
Everything's there: fire and ice-themed stages, the requisite "giant battleship raid" level, challenging bosses and scratchy voice samples that interrupt the music. Other features, like branching paths, multi-section stages and a temperature system attempt to make the game feel fresh and surprising, giving the player more than would be expected from just a trip down memory lane.
