Abstract - Turn-based - Brain-melting! Spectra is a fiendishly difficult turn-based puzzler where every move you make has consequence. Carefully balance your energy levels as you negotiate a pulsating neon maze-scape and avoid geometric enemy patterns to get to the exit square. The basic concept is simple, each move you make advances the game world by one turn. You are either getting more powerful by moving onto the grey squares or loosing power. Gain 5 energy and you will raise a color level. Raising a color level enables you to enter locked squares and overcome enemies that have an equal or lower color level than you.

i just tried it, and this game is really nice. the visuals/audio aren't too "assaulting" at all. the window is locked at 768*1024 for me, though, which seems like a very strange resolution to choose, and which makes it impossible to fit the whole thing on smaller screens. is that size intentional?

Hey you can change the screen resolution by clicking the small 'options' button at the bottom of the title screen. This will take you to a screen where you can toggle full screen mode as well as set various screen resolutions. I hope this helps.

i know there's an options screen. when i use it, though, the window resolution can't actually be changed. it's locked at 768*1024, so that the window is taller than my small-ish screen.

Have you tried full-screen mode. when you toggle full screen mode, it will repopulate the resolution list with fullscreen resolutions. maybe one of those will fit on your screen well?

both in windowed and fullscreen mode, the only option available to me is 768*1024. see here: withg.org/shmibs/spectra-Screenshot.png

i am using arch linux, and my native screen resolution is 1366*768

Ok yeah it should allow 1024x768 and up. I'll get a new version up within the next couple of days with a resolution fix. Sorry about that.

Looks alright, but I'm not sure if I WANT 'retina-searing visuals'... Is there an option to turn those down?

Hi there. Have a look at the gameplay video to see if it looks too much for you, turning off the music is an option that definitely decreases the visual stimulus (level moves to the music).

I watched the video before commenting. The visuals seem pretty assaulting in a few places (0:36 for example).

Turning off the music isn't ideal because that's half the point of games like this!

Is there a demo anywhere I can try out?

Sorry there's no demo available at this stage.
