Nine Gods. Nine Heroes. One Winner.

Numen is an action RPG set in mythical Greece. The player controls one of nine heroes, who in the name of the gods they follow compete in a grand test of their capabilities. Heroes who undertake a pilgrimage over the highest mountains, through valleys and deep forests, underground vaults and the scorched sand of deserts. Numen however is no mere hack-and-slash game. It offers the player the possibility of tactical decision making, searching for enemies’ weak spots, selection of adequate weapons. It rewards those who are able to adapt to the changing situation on the battlefield. In this the player is helped by the unique powers and abilities invested in him by the god he follows, provided that the god is happy with him. The Olympian gods, after all, are renowned for their wanton and unpredictable nature. Not only mere enemies and legendary monsters stand in the player’s way in fulfilling his task. There are also eight other heroes whom the player will encounter during the course of the game. Some of them may harm him, others help him, and some of them he must defeat in the sand of the arena at one of the great tournaments…

The Story
Who is more capable? He who honours the thunderous Dio or he who brings sacrifices to the cruel Ares? He whose bow is charmed by Apollo, or the winged messenger Hermes? The quarrelsome gods of Olympus themselves, who never stray far for a bet, would like to know the answer. The answer, which shall come in the form of a single hero, who will be smarter, faster and stronger than his rivals, and who shall be first to reach the set destination.
It seems that the nine gallant warriors shall become pawns in the hands of the capricious gods and their passions. Or is this perhaps more than a mere game? For the first time since the fall of the Titans, on Olympus, where the eyes of mortals cannot see, a feeling which does not belong to the gods spreads like a plague. Fear… Numen has a powerful and prolific story, the main thread of which is accompanied by a range of subsidiary optional quests.

The World
Mythical Greece. A land of gods, world-renowned poets, heroes, but also fearsome monsters and beasts. In Numen the player finds everything he would expect from a living world full of myths and sagas. From ordinary animals on the plains and in forests, to zombies, skeletons or ghosts of the dead in underground caverns, giant scorpions, spiders, pirates or cursed warriors of the dark continent, as well as legendary monsters such as the Minotaur, Orthrus and many more.
Numen however also contains completely new and unique enemies. The player’s path shall be complicated by Hefaiston’s degenerate followers, giant mechanoids, forest priests and others …
All of this takes place in a world which spreads out over several islands. A world which contains dozens of dungeons to be explored and a wealth of interesting game characters.

The Hero
Whichever path the player – controlling a man or woman in the game – sets out on, is entirely the player’s decision, made at a time when the player’s character is still a child. The player decides which of the nine gods he will follow partly by direct choice and partly consciously in the manner of the game he plays. It is entirely up to the player as to whether he goes through the game as a dauntless warrior brandishing a sword or axe, as a wizard or as a dextrous hunter and singer of potent songs.
As soon as one of the Olympian gods takes him under its wing, the player gradually obtains access to various unique abilities and skills. How far, and how quickly, the player learns these skills depends on how satisfied the player’s god is with his conduct.
Only he who proves himself before his god’s unwavering gaze can master such skills as raising from the dead, magical connection with water, masterful attacks with weapons, forgotten songs and many more.

This is hands down the BEST rpg here on Desura. I got it on Steam and I loved it. We had the chance to talk first hand with the developers on the steam forums and they're cool dudes that really put love in their games.
They even fixed some bugs we've found a year after the release of the game.
If you like hack'n'slash games, and you're in search for a light RPG with a nice plot and even some clever puzzles, this one is for you. Just keep in mind that's not an AAA title, so can be a little rough around some edge. Totally worth that price but if you're on the fence grab it when it's on sale here or on steam

I finally contacted a developer about Numen. He basically said there would be "NO" patch for Numen in the future because the programmers are not available.
He was very nice replying to each issue I was having with the game.
But unfortunately I grew tired of playing because it became extremely difficult to progress when all the enemies regenerate.
They come back anytime you load a level, cave or dungeon... and they come back after you die. So there is no way to make progress if you keep dying.

I think the graphics look amazing. They are taking full advantage of Direct X 9 and it should be able to run on any machine or laptop. On top of that... the only other RPG that has a Greek/Roman theme is Titan Quest. Ands its pretty cool too.

the words "should be freeware" makes you look like a total douchebag, as probably you are. You need to learn something that's called respect of other people hard work.

I've seen the trailer and looked at the screenshots, but is this game any good for an RPG? Do the NPC's talk? Does the avatar you use talk? Is the game buggy? I've yet to read a review of this game, I'm curious.

Thanks, RTSGamer

of course the NPCs talk! and the storyline is quite original too! There are even other champions controlled by the computer hanging around dungeons and faraway lands, you can fight them to please your God or help them if you feel so.
The plot is quite good, you start as a kid, hanging around your home island with your sister (or vice versa if you choose to be a girl) and the class you'll became as adult isn't choosen from a menu or some button, it's calculated depending what you do in your childhood: if you fight with magic or ranged weapons the most then you'll became a wizard or a hunter, and so on...
