Nowhere 01 is an independent first person survival horror game with unique, surreal aesthetics, inspired by early Silent Hill series games, System Shock and Condemned. In this game you will explore unsettling, hostile environments, trying to survive on your way out. The game rewards the exploration - in the darkest corners, where you afraid to step, you may find something that helps you to fight those monsters. And fighting them is not easy, you can't just run and shoot, you need to be careful and use all what you can to survive. Nowhere 01 heavily relies on atmosphere - visual style, sound, creating a feeling of eeriness and isolation.
Features:
The game currently is in development by a single person and it still far from approximating release date. There's a lot of content and technical functionality to make yet. I am responsible for both programming and art. Nowhere 01 uses custom engine, written in C++ with use of OpenGL and PhysX. The game will be available for Windows and very likely to be ported for Linux.

Nowhere was restarted from scratch. Not much content yet, but a lot of technical work made to turn Unity into a usable engine. Couldn't make much progress recently because invasion of Ukraine f*cked up my life completely...
Our lives, me and my girlfriend. Last 5 month were hell.
We were in Kyiv when the invasion started, and on top of waking up almost every night to shots and explosions... We unfortunately have russian passports. Being a citizen of invading country makes you a potential enemy/suspect, making our lives in that situation even harder. Even just driving around the roads is a risk, checkpoints everywhere and nobody is happy to see a passport of occupant country. We got out, thanks to our amazing Ukrainian friend Igor and now in safety. What a journey that was! Through Lviv to Poland border, through Poland to Berlin and then to the south west of Germany to my friend Kenneth!
But we had to leave behind friends, habits and my life savings. A devastating blow. Even though we were always against russian regime and openly supported sovereignty of Ukraine, their culture and identity.., Our nationality mattered a lot more. And now the money i saved most of my career to buy us a house and fund this project - are now frozen indefinitely in PrivatBank24. All the pleads, all the evidence I gave them of me being on their side wasn't enough. They wouldn't allow me to use even small amounts of money to get food or medication in the middle of war. Cruel and unnecessary.
Thankfully I got people that helped us, including the company i work for - Ludeon (makers of RimWorld). I got a lot of moral support, some cash to help us flee the country and no pressure at all about returning to work. It was one of the few glimpses of light in this story. Another one was my friend and ex-colleague from Ludeon - Kenneth. He gave us shelter in Germany until we stabilize and he still helps us to deal with local authorities and other issues of being a refugee here.
Now we rent our own apartment, I slowly start to return to normal life and work on this project. But our future is very uncertain. We didn't get the same treatment that Ukraine natives get when they get here. 5 month in, we still don't have residency permit, work permit and not even allowed to have insurance... And the sole reason was our passport. If one of us has to go to a doctor - i pay inflated prices with cash. I also had to stay at the hospital for 10 days and they will try and charge me for that. So yeah... a lot of shit to deal with. And so far German authorities keep ignoring us, to the point we had to hire a lawyer and pressure them to just review our case already and give us a f*cking paper.
My mental state is not good, can't sleep anymore. But I hope that there's a good ending to all of this if we persist. And I hope Ukraine persists.

Is this project still alive?
Gyazo.com
Says that OpenGL 3.2 is not supported... so It wont load the game.
Says to update my card drivers, which I did, and I still cant even acess it.
IS there a way around this?
Seems very promising. Now I will go ahead and tell my experience in blunt detail. Please know that this is merely to help the game improve and I'm not trying to bash or discredit you in any way.
Performance
It didn't run well on my PC even though the graphics were not the prettiest. It's an old-ish PC but it runs Outlast perfectly, so it shouldn't have any problems running this. I believe that part of the problem are the excessive use of shaders like noise, and the motion blur was rather painful. SSAO has no place in there either in my opinion, for it adds absolutely nothing and it bogs down the performance (I deactivated it and saw no change other than increased FPS).
Atmosphere
The lighting is too dark, horror games should NOT be this dark, even if many indie devs do it nowadays to make it "extra spooooooky" it really shouldn't be that way. Look at Silent Hill 3 and Resident evil Remake for reference. Lighting should create atmosphere, not obstruct the view.
The monsters are some scary stuff right there! Add some moans and stuff like that and you're diamonds.
The few ambient sounds and music are top notch, no complaints here except maybe turn the volume down just a tiny bit.
Gameplay
The game controls rather well, although the character moves a little slow, but not too slow. I think this is perfect for it enhances the sense of dread. Aiming was a little awkward and I believe it should remain that way, you should never ever have the upper hand in horror games until maybe the very end.
Would it be possible for the camera to be a bit father from the player? I don't know if it is what you intended but it kind of obstructs the view.
An extra bit: Please add collision to the ladders...? LOL I totally fell down...
All in all, great prototype for what it is. It shows a lot of promise. I hope you can keep working on the game without major issues and if it ends up on Steam, you can be sure that I'll be there to throw money at you. Keep up the good work!
Hi, thanks for so much feedback! (: About darkness - did you turn the flashlight on? It's "F" key.
Grrreat game, i love that kind of atmosphere!
Gutted I can't try it out. :(
As a Silent hill fan, i like that atmosfere, seems like a very promising game, i keep my eyes open.
Do you publish your source code? :)
