Description
For the arcade lover in everyone, comes a simple yet fast-paced action game, entitled Fly PANIC! In the first episode "Kitchen Chaos!", the player faces off against a swarm of hungry houseflies, who have set their sights on a the yummy "Dish of the Day" in four different challenges. The object is to take out as many of the flies as possible in the given time limit, while being careful to only hit the specified type of fly. By tapping the on-screen flies, the player possesses the power of "The Bug Zappa!", a new prototype device that packs a powerful electric shock to the bugs, but has a short and finicky battery life. With each challenge, it is critical that the player only hits the specified type of flies, and takes care to avoid hitting background obstacles; doing the opposite can cost the player the game. It is a simple, single screen, action game that requires speed and a good eye.
History
The idea for Fly PANIC! is based on a real life game that I often played with my son, who as a toddler, had a major phobia of flying insects. The object of that game was to spray any flying insects that got into the house, and keep score of how many we killed. This little game we played, was more or less born of out of desperation on my part; the objective was to redirect my son's energy from his phobia, when little else seemed to do the trick. My wife and I spent many days and nights, wondering how to help him overcome or better cope with his phobia. Little by little, this random little game gave us hope. From there, the basic groundwork for Fly PANIC! Was created.
Episode 1 of Fly PANIC! is basically from the perspective of a small child, who fears bugs; as opposed to seeing a few small flies in the area, the player is bombarded with a large exaggerated swarm of flies, big and small. The flies come in different types: Blue Bottle Flies, Green Blow Flies, Red Fruit Flies and the ever annoying and biting Black Fly.
The player is never seen on screen. The weapon, which was a spray bottle in the original real life game, was changed to a high-tech bug zapping device for the video game; of which, is also never seen on screen. Instead, the game is focused on the large group of flies and the food that they've set their sights on. Points are awarded based on the type of flies that are killed, whether the player reaches required amount of kills, and the time in which they player reaches that amount. The amount of remaining unused time and battery life, is added onto the player's final score for that level.
After a series of re-scheduled release dates, Fly PANIC! Episode 1 was released on December 31, 2018 via my company Sage Verse Innovations LLC (SVI). As the full title suggests, there are more installments planned for the series. More details on the next installment will be available, as development progresses.
