"Genre"? Some kid had a lucky break with an experimental game made out of a total of ONE gameplay mechanic and now we're calling it a genre?
Not wanting to be disrespectful, but the community needs to stop making kitch games and explore new ideas.
Mr. Dong isn't a kid, and has had a past of game development. It was hardly a lucky break on a mechanic, it had been done before, he was just putting his own spin on it. The reason everyone is making games like this nowadays is because Mr. Dong was making $50k A DAY. If you had the chance at making that much money every day, would you not try?
Do more research before trying to put down people.
Not by making a clone to a Mario rip-off. I don't need any research for that. For me indie games are about soul not making money. But hey, if you're happy making reboots and piggybacking on other people's momentary success, be prepared for people to see your game as just that: yet another clone. Let's hope Google doesn't plug it out, like it did with the other hundred clones.
