Death Cabin Pre-alpha!

News

Death Cabin is a pixelated arcade shooter featuring a man trapped within a cabin as he takes on hordes of demonic creatures.

Animated Gif

The player starts the game without any weapon, and thus must obtain a random weapon dropped into the cabin periodically. A key component of the gameplay is the conservation of ammunition - the constant dilemma between eliminating nearby threats immediately or saving some bullets for when things get tough should keep the player on his/her toes. Should the player run out of ammo, he/she will be left with no means of defense; at least, until the next weapon drops.

I've been playing the flash version of this on FreeWebArcade, and for the most part I've really been enjoying it. There's only one real problem I have with it: the key placement. Playing with WASD for movement and X for shooting is rather awkward and confusing. Most games of this style use key placements like WASD + J or K, or even Arrow Keys + Z or X. Some even let the player map out the key functions themselves. Just a little feedback. Other than that the game is surprisingly fun. It's a short burst of fun. It's got solid design and is executed well. And it's only in pre-alpha? Not even alpha? It doesn't seem that way, considering the level of polish. I'm keeping an eye on this game for sure. Good job and keep up the good work! :D

Hello! Thank you for your kind comments! It's been a while since I've updated this page.

There are actually 2 sets of control schemes in the game: WASD + Space, or Arrows + X - I should have stated them explicitly to avoid confusion. The web version you played is actually a much later version than the ones downloadable here. While the web version is pretty much done (I sold the web license to spilgames), the PC build is still undergoing development and will eventually (hopefully) feature more enemies and levels and better visual feedback =)

Thanks for your support!

I just noticed that on the title screen it say "press x or space" but after fiddling around with things neither the space bar nor the arrow keys responded. Only WASD and X. I guess that's why I figured it was one control scheme.

I'm gonna keep an eye out for the downloadable version though! The web version isn't bad at all so I'm happy to hear that its PC counterpart will be getting better. No problem on the support. It's a fun thing to do!

My unique let's play -> Youtu.be

I decided to see what your game was all about and I liked it. It's actually harder then it looks!

So I'm not sure if it was me or not but your game has no sound (I'm dumb either way lol) which brings me to my let's play. You might have noticed I added some of my own and did a sort of tongue in cheek run of it. ;)

At any rate it's a lot of fun even if it's in pre-alpha! The controls are tight and it has a good gimmick with the timed weapon drops. I'm sort of terrible at it when ad libbing a rough script but I hope you enjoy my video as much as I enjoyed your game. I can't wait for when it's more finished!
