Hi guys, I'm new here so I hope this is the right place to be writing this but I need some help with some characters to complete the roster for my unique fighting game. Right now I have a bunch of characters and a lot of the themes revolve around futuristic cyberpunk/horror and some fantasy themes mixed in. So I have a variety of characters in the mix.

I need help with deciding the better choice for my character.

I want to design an African American female fighter and my options are to make her a female cyberpunk mad scientist with cyber tech gear, a martial artist/movie star actress that fights like Bruce Lee, a cyberpunk police officer with flying drones to attack you or a secret high tech cyber agent/spy. Which one of these ideas sounds the best for her?

thank you for anyones help.

I wanted to choose something different than the rest of the roster but since you didn't reveal the roster, looks like I'll have to choose based on my opinion :)

Hmmm... Bruce Lee sounds too cliche to me... I chose the last one: secret high tech agent. I assume this class has assassination skill or something like that

I can give you an idea of my list if that helps :)

So far I have a sentinel robot, yeti, tree monster, hulking monster, cyberpunk mechanic, werewolf boxer, assassin girl, telekinetic girl, wendigo, female and male vampire, doctor, nurse, nun, prisoner, clown girl, soldier female, scarecrow, sea creature, doll, snake beast, steampunk gunslinger, and more to come.

Let me know what you think and if any of this helps with choosing.

Hmmm... I'm not sure how different yeti and wendigo would be

But anyways, back to topic, since you already have assassin girl, I change my choice a cyberpunk police officer with flying drones to attack you

As a big fan of fighting games, I'd agree that cyberpunk police officer with flyer drones sounds interesting! An African American female fighter with that skillset sounds a bit like Cid from Punch Planet (albeit Cid is from South America). But I'm sure your character design could end up being very different!

I'd be very curious to see some of your other designs as well! And if you need some inspiration on those designs, I'd be happy to provide some recommendations! Like I said, I'm a big fan of fighting games. 🤓

Sorry about my last message as I can't seem to be allowed to edit it :(

If either you want to help me with some inspiration for some of my other character ideas that would be great.

I like the idea of the female cyberpunk officer which I'll stick with. But I wanted there to be a second cyberpunk officer that's bad. Any ideas on how I can make this cyberpunk officer different than the other one I already mentioned? what other style can I use besides shield and flying drones?

I want to create a cyberpunk/type scientist character. I could go the more human route with him/her being a martial arts expert and uses gene therapy to get the DNA of fighters, creatures, cyborgs, etc and use that DNA for his/her own gene engineering for advanced fighting skills. Or go more non human with some type of A.I system being male or female, that can analyze every fighters moves, it can mimic their DNA and/or be able to calculate and predict their next move, think sherlock Holmes but in a sci fi advanced A.I twist.

For the nun with good and evil powers. Could I dress her looks away from the traditional appearance of a nun? Considering she's been abandoned from the abbey due to her half demon blood?

What's a better idea for my miner character? Make him more of a sci fi cyberpunk based character? Or go with a more horror/psycho scary vibe?

Thank you once again!

Hmmm.... maybe a cyborg? you only have one robot so far...

You should dress her like a nun, otherwise it'd be hard to tell that she was a nun

Hmmm.... it depends on fight style he's going to have

The miner would use a pitch axe, some type dynamite or dirt/sand to blind enemies.

For the nun, could I have her wear similar clothes to Evie Frye or any female character from AC? So at least she would still have similar clothes to what a nun warrior could look like?

Sounds like a overkill, but if presented in animation, maybe could work.

So what's a better alternative for the miner? I was thinking of just making it a character based on sand manipulation. That could work, and I'd leave out the pick axe and he'd just rely on sand, or I could go more brutal rushdown/ or a brute attacking with the pick axe.

Which sounds more interesting out of both choices? The sand manipulation miner or the brute force miner with the pick axe?

As long she still looks like a nun, that would be fine :D

To me brute force sounds better, though he could use other mining tools such as drills, mine carts and dynamites.

Hmmm... what about this: the miner can use his mining skills to create traps. Opponent stepping on traps could either get a cave in or get stabbed by sharp rocks from below. And/or miner can mine various ores during the fight. The ore he found could be used to attack opponent or heal him

Good!

This works. I could make him a brute force/trap style character. But I'd need to figure out if he should be more sci fi-like or more horror outlandish. You you think either could work?

And I was thinking of a skeletal pirate, maybe from the golden age. Would a sorcery or gypsy pirate sound more interesting? Or just go with the traditional Blackbeard style? And which would make a better background for him/her? Irish or English?

My other character I forgot to mention was some type of mummy from the ancient middle east like Sumer, though mummy has been done a lot, would an ancient alchemist from the middle east sound more interesting?

Thank you so much for your help and feedback :)

Just catching up on this now! I agree with all of the previous ideas.

I would avoid just a skeletal pirate, since I think people would see it as too similar to Spinal from Killer Instinct. A pirate based in sorcery may be interesting though! Another cool idea is for them to have some sort of communication with a Kraken. Maybe the pirate can summon tentacles for long reaching normals or a grab based game. Based on some quick Wikipedia research, it doesn't seem like English pirates really existed. Apparently Irish pirates did though, so probably try for that! You could also add some RNG into his moves because of the whole "Irish luck" trope. :P

An ancient alchemist from the middle east sounds more interesting than a mummy IMO! I think the ancient alchemist is a VERY under-explored character archetype. I'd definitely recommend going for it and think there's a lot of room for creativity. Just be careful how you design him/her visually, since the idea is somewhat similar to Kan-Ra from Killer Instinct. While he LOOKS like a mummy, he's actually an ancient Babylonian sorcerer. He's kept himself alive for centuries using black magic and artifacts.

I hope this helps!

^I looked up Wiki and you're right. Spinal and Kan-Ra are very similar to those idea :(

Perhaps mine would be much different. I think the Irish pirate idea will still work! Instead of a skeletal pirate he can be a sorcerer that's used magic over the years, maybe released from some hidden chest! But appearance wise since I can't make him a skeletal design, I don't want to copy other ideas already used, would I be better off giving him a more sea creature inspired design? Or just human looking like a Jack Sparrow type look? The kraken would work great, I have some good ideas for how that would work :)

I'll go with ancient alchemist for sure! Thanks! Maybe I can make this one female from the ancient Middle East, I don't think that's been done yet has it? Maybe dressed in ancient jewels, magic spell amulets and such? If it was male would it still seem too similar to Kan-Ra?

Thank you for your help.

You're welcome!

I think both of your ideas can certainly be differentiated enough. I think a sea creature inspired pirate could be cool. There are a few of those in games and movies already, but there are so many sea creatures out there. There's plenty of room to make it your own. Another idea is that your pirate has a skeleton of sea creature instead of a human skeleton. Now THAT could be interesting! :O Glad you like the Kraken idea too.

To my knowledge, there isn't a female ancient alchemist character from the middle east. If you want them to be male, I think it's certainly possible to make him different from Kan-Ra though. Completely up to you!

I like the idea of a sea creature inspired pirate and I've thought of the idea once before. Hmm... maybe I can do some kind of lovecraftian inspired skeletal pirate? I don't think the other games have done that yet. Yeah the Kraken I like!

I could go with the alchemist as female. Originally I planned on it being male. I could make him look like an ancient scientist.

I figured out the Japanese female ghost idea! So that's covered.

I just need help on two more characters and I'm done! I want a female Hindu from India /Sri Lanka and a warrior or mythological creature from Polynesia. For the female Hindu, should I make her a guru warrior or cyborg? And the Maori, a traditional warrior or some creature myth?

Thank you!

Just a heads up on the Japanese female ghost, Killer Instinct has that covered too lol. I'm sure you can make one very different, but wanted to show you so you know what to avoid in your design.

When you said female warrior from India, I immediately thinks of this: Kali . Dark colored skin and 4 arms, she could be great inspiration for female Hindu ;)

And the Maori, a traditional warrior or some creature myth?

since you have plenty of humanoid fighters, you should pick a creature myth to make it different than the rest :)

No worries as I think I managed to make them not the same ;)

I was thinking maybe still have that creepy long hair look covering her one eye but she uses a sword and maybe small bladed daggers instead of a naginata. Maybe her clothes will be ripped off, shredded clothes like she was brutally killed her past life and some bandaged ripped clothing around her limbs?

I could use that idea! But would it be too common since I think it's been done a lot before? If I made her like Kali, would it be better if she was some kind of ancient witch/sorceress or a modern Indian idol pop star who happens to of inherited the Kali spirit based on her Hindu heritage culture descendants?

I'd love for a creature myth! But I've been having difficulty figuring out a way to make a Polynesian creature, I tried researching and there isn't anything very inspiring :(

I think I figured out the Maori creature myth, perhaps some kind of ancient alien that resided hidden?

Maybe a floating book. Its fists are actually pages that give people paper cuts. It has a ranged attack that has pages fly at people. It can stun you by throwing words at you.

You know, this maybe isn't such a bad idea, maybe it can be a part of a spell I can use?
