ModDB is looking for a game programmer to lead the creation of a modding SDK. This position involves working with a REST API containing data from ModDB, that developers can integrate into their game to make modding a breeze. Apply here.

You'll need to have:

  • Experience in game development using C/C++.
  • AAA game engine experience (Unreal, Unity etc).
  • Low-level C/C++ knowledge: threading, memory management, sockets etc.
  • Experience creating SDKs and DLLs for Windows (Mac, Linux in the future) that network with our API to provide the modding functionality.

It'd be great if you have:

  • Experience integrating similar SDKs in the past such as Steamworks into games.
  • Familiarity with JSON based web APIs.
  • An enthusiasm for mods, creating tools and pushing boundaries.

What you will be working on:

  • Step one of your job will involve making a low level SDK (DLLs etc) that developers can drop into their games folder to connect with our web API.
  • Step two will be using this SDK to create Unity, Unreal, Lumberyard and other engines plugins to make integration as simple as possible.
  • Solving challenges like plugging in 3rd party login and member base systems, to make our solution as flexible as possible.

Job details:

  • We have an office in Melbourne, Australia. You are welcome to come work with us there, or remotely, your call.
  • We are flexible when it comes to hours worked, full time, part time, contracting - happy to discuss your circumstances.
  • We aim to build this over the coming months so being able to dedicate 3 ~ 4 months to the challenge now would be ideal.
  • We share our victories with the team and promote and reward great work and believe we are making something amazing.
  • We are a small company but with huge reach. Your work will be used and loved by millions of gamers.
  • This is a paid role.

What is ModDB?

For 15 years we have been running a community dedicated to creators who mod games. Today we reach 200,000 users daily who seek new gaming content, and it's time for us to evolve from a reactive modding solution to a proactive one. Right now the only proactive modding SDK on the market is Steam Workshop, and while it is a brilliant solution adopted by many games, we believe competition is healthy and necessary to push the industry forward.

Modding is the best part of PC gaming and it's only getting stronger as the tools get better. We plan on playing a big role in its future and need your help to make that happen.
