Post news Report RSS Into the Dark: Steam, Oculus, and many improvements!

Dozens of fans thought we are making some crazy April´s fool attempt yesterday - but no, everything was true!

Posted by on

NOT KIDDING NOW:

ITD will be released on Steam SOON.
We have Oculus Rift support.

And we have improved the game in many ways!

Let´s get to the points:

1. Steam Release:

No exact date yet, but we aim for end of April. And no, we are not talking about an entry on Greenlight, we are talking about a full scale release including Steam Achievements like "Still on top of the food chain!" and "Springtime for Hitler and Germany... ...Winter for Poland and France!".

2. Oculus Rift:

Yes, you can explore the levels in immerse VR 3D. It is as great as it may sound now, however, getting into firefights is not recommended. Testers have vomited more than once.

3. New Textures:

We would like to thank all journalists (and common players) who praised the quality of our textures in their review. However, many of them were NOT what we consider high quality, and due to lazyness we had several texture tiles created by mirroring. Those insults to artists eyes are now gone.

4. Intelligent Motion Blur:

I admit: I personally HATE motion blur in games, especially in those where you don´t run around like a jackrabbit on speed. However, we wanted to reflect the behavior of real eyes as good as possible. Therefore we blur only very subtle on fast head movements through the scene. In addition to that, we have now a realistic blur on objects that move fast and close to the player. hard to show that on screenshots, but take a look at the hands...

5. Improved surface shaders:

The new shader system used for surfaces take the material more into account than previous ones. Example: Rotten wood is normal mapped to reflect the structure, but it´s NOT getting glossy - because, you know, it´s rotten wood. Metallic objects, plastic and polished marble surfaces get glossy in varying degrees.

6. New splashscreen:

Finally an honest tagline beneath a company logo.

What else?

Well, hundreds of bugfixes, new scripts, new videos, new sounds, re-recorded voice overs...
...and all improvements will be patched into the Desura Version afterwards! (Except the Steam achievements, of course...)

Hopefully fairly priced on Steam, and I pick it up there! Will "Into The Ice" also come to Steam over time?
