Post news Report RSS Announcing VRDB: The Virtual Reality Content Hub And Community

VRDB is laser-focused on all things virtual and augmented reality.

Posted by on

We are excited to announce the launch of indiedb.com, the newest addition to the DBolical Network. Indie DB is dedicated to covering all aspects of virtual reality. As the medium and the technology powering it begins to arrive in consumers' hands this year, and its creators delve into uncharted territory, Indie DB will serve as a guide: what hardware to buy; what games to play; what's in store for the future of VR.

Indie DB is built upon the same systems powering IndieDB.com and ModDB.com, giving VR content creators the ability to submit their own games and media to the site. By allowing creators to directly contribute, Indie DB becomes a database of knowledge for developers and enthusiasts alike.

To ensure Indie DB will track and highlight the most important developments in virtual reality, we'll also be posting dedicated editorial content from our editor, Dan Hindes. Dan has over five years experience in the field, previously working as the editor of Australian PC gaming magazine PC PowerPlay, and as the Australian editor of GameSpot.com. He'll be producing news, reviews, features and interviews covering everyone from small, local VR hackers to major hardware manufacturers.

If you are a VR developer, manufacturer, publisher, or distributor, you can contact the editor at dan@indiedb.com. You can also create a Indie DB account and get started by submitting your game, its screenshots, trailers, and playable versions. Join us in making Indie DB the most comprehensive hub for virtual reality enthusiasts and pioneers.

You can also follow our Facebook page at Indie DBcom and Twitter @Indie DBcom.

Just wanted to thank the team who worked on this, XanT (code), Daniel.hindes (editor), Thuy (design), feillyne (content), Tkaza (community and testing) and others! We are super happy with how it turned out, and look forward to bringing a community driven site to the VR world.

Good work - I love it. Can I ask what you're using for scaling the site? Docker containers/app engine/AWS?

Entirely our own custom built infrastructure. We have a colo in the Equinix datacenter which contains about 11 servers. We are an Aussie business too, great to have you comment :)

Oh wow, that's awesome. You've cut out the middle man. I'd love to be able to do that, but we're time-constrained and don't have the dedicated expertise to manage it all ourselves. Thanks for the insight. :)

Appreciate that greatly, next up will be ModDB / IndieDB though they will retain their classic design (but modernized)

Aha Equinix
There is also Interxion too
It seems we are going global which is a good thing i think
I wonder if we should be worried..
We will not be so secluded anymore but open wide to the wide world i think
Maybe this will get more people to the site :)

I hope we will all be happy with this choice
