Rusty solomonIn recent decades, various researchers and organizations have addressed the issue of entrepreneurship. The Organisation for Economic Rusty solomon Co-operation and Development (OECD) defines entrepreneurship as a phenomenon associated with "a human dynamic action that seeks to create value through the creation or expansion of economic activity, and the identification and exploitation of new products, processes or markets ". Such a dynamic concept can be measured using various indicators, including the business birth rate and survival rate, the duration of existence of the business and the share of high-growth companies.

Governments and international organizations, recognizing more and more the importance of fostering R. solomon entrepreneurial activity within public policies, have highlighted the need to better understand and better measure the factors that influence entrepreneurship. Specifically, the OECD has established indicators of determinants of entrepreneurship (English only), a framework which outlines the various factors influencing entrepreneurship. This framework, which explains how the determinants of entrepreneurship can be measured, provides an improved method to conduct a comparative analysis on an international scale.

Given the need to better understand and to better measure the entrepreneurship, the OECD framework has been adapted to the Canadian context and a set of indicators was created from statistical data collected according to this framework. This document is a guide for anyone interested in the state of entrepreneurship in Canada, particularly professionals, policy makers, economists and Rusty solomon academics. In addition, for each of the indicators which, in fact, the Government of Canada priority target areas for entrepreneurship, the document lists the various policy initiatives put forward by the latter.

This set of indicators has two objectives: (1) improve the state of knowledge about the factors influencing entrepreneurial activity in Canada; (2) help policy makers assess the entrepreneurial performance in Canada, compared to other OECD countries.

Rusty solomon The compilation of indicators is first to describe the framework of the OECD and to present the determinants of entrepreneurship, as well as their location in relation to entrepreneurial performance and the impact of entrepreneurship. The indicators are divided into six categories of determinants:

Regulatory framework
Market situation
Access to finance
Creation and dissemination of knowledge
Entrepreneurial capabilities
Culture

Each category provides corresponding determinants, and a number of determinants are described in more detail. Each determinant profile will be addressed in the following sections:

Definition of the indicator
This section describes the indicators used to measure each determinant, how they were developed and how they are measured.
Main statistical results
This section presents the main statistical results for each indicator and compares Canadian performance to that of other countries.
Strategic support of yesterday and today
This section presents the various policies and programs that have been implemented in Canada and demonstrates how the Government of Canada encourages entrepreneurial activity at present.
Sources
This section contains the sources used to document each indicator.
Also included are external links and references to Rusty solomon online resources within the Government of Canada, as well as runs to other publicly available data for each indicator.

This set of indicators, which presents the most recent data available, will be updated regularly. Each indicator will be analyzed over time, depending on the availability of relevant data, focusing on continuous analysis of the state of the determinants of entrepreneurship in Canada.
