INTERLIGHT STUDIO Looking for developers to create RPG Maker MV Experience!

Interlight Studio is an indie company built around cooperation, smart work, and the love of video games. We’ve created an environment populated by specialists, hobbyists, and novices, all working towards their individual goals with the aid of other members to achieve what they lack or want to learn. One of Interlight Studio’s goals is to create a hub of developers, designers, and streamers aficionados that will help each other conquer their goals.

The Narrative department at Interlight Studio has recently finished the overarching design of our primary studio game world called Therron that is the setting for one of our games, working title Trials of the Branded. However, we decided to work on more narrative-heavy titles to boost our renown, get a chance in teaching individuals about narrative design skills, and fully develop this exciting new IP. But to achieve that, we are lacking some team members!

The Therron Project, built using RPG Maker MV, will start its production phase on August 1, 2016, with the state goal of “creating the highest, most organic form of narrative-driven experience our team can produce”. To achieve this goal, we described twelve activities. It is not expected to have one person for every task, however, and the team size will range from 3 to 5 total members.

[Covered, Accepting Interns] Narrative and Mission Design – Plot Writing, mission design, and overall narrative design is no easy task! This is our main selling point and focused goal of excellence. By using tools such as pacing, agency, narrative exploration and the like, the handler of this activity will have to create and prototype arcs and plots, using the engine and team´s capacity while finding the fine synergy between theme and mechanics.

[Covered] Eventing – RPG Maker MV has powerful trigger tools that allow for interesting mechanics, cut scenes, and can bring our idea to life. By either using these capacities or investigation plugins that will assist, the eventing coordinator that handles these assets will have the duty to bring the ideas and concepts of the designers to life. It is also expected to organize all events and handle the final build of the game!

[Covered] Level Design – Every story needs a map, and RPG Maker games need to have their levels fine-tuned to the narrative experience. Here, the handler will utilize either the vanilla assets of the engine or acquire free assets that are available for commercial use to create detailed, rich maps that enrich immersion. Depending on the team’s composition, however, they might be able to request specific assets to be made in this behalf.

[Covered] System Design – While we don´t expect the game to utilize the common turn-based fighting mechanics of most RPG games, it will require some mechanics to be tailor built, balanced, and polished. With the narrative and themes in mind, this activity is built around creating the necessary tools to create engaging gameplay.

[Half-Covered] Sound Design – This adventure might require some small amount of original sound assets. Ambient effects, objects breaking, and creature sounds! A Sound Designer may be needed to create our sound profile and further distance ourselves from the multitude of RPG Maker games out there.

[Covered] Composing – There is no story that cannot benefit from good music. A Composer will be responsible for creating a musical background and theme songs for our adventures, making sure to work with the tone the game is set in while having the freedom over sound tracks and compositions that reflect the artist’s.

[Vacant] Character Spriting – Our setting has a distinctly unique imagery related to it and the basic assets will NOT be able to handle our characters. To make Therron come to life, this is a place we cannot cut corners in. A character spriter will be expected to create, either from concept art or from descriptive text, sprite-sheets for characters. This will include animal life and monstrous creatures! A spriter can choose either to create all of their assets or to add enough material to the generator.

[Vacant] Environmental Art – Maps in Vanilla RPG Maker look darn good, but they can look too similar at times! By using an image editing tool such as Photoshop or GIMP, an environmental artist will take maps from the level designer and render them to the Therron standard. This is especially tricky as the artist will be required to understand the technicalities of overlaying fog and lightning in the chosen plugins for the engine, and make sure it all works spectacularly.

[Vacant] 2D Art – The IP needs a lot of concept art done. This will help not only the RPG Maker project, but all work that takes place in this setting. A 2D artist´s job is to create better versions of the creative team´s sketches, render beautiful moodboards and rough sketches, and, in the RPG Maker project, create the face/bust graphics, title screens, and the like. And if you have the skill, help out in the creation of promo art!

[Covered] Producing – Teams a little bigger can all expect to have some form of management in them. A Producer will help keep things tidy, organize workflow and communication across the board. While not an specialist, it is expected of him to handle well the affairs that rise in the development process, handle the outside team´s expectations and, well, be the most proactive member of the crew.

[Covered, Accepting Interns] Marketing – Interlight Studio already has a team of marketers that can deal with getting the game out there for the world to see, but if you want to try and learn a bit more of this craft, this might be the right place! We expect a marketer to be able to find spots for distribution, handle basic PR, and manage hype for the release. Bonus points if they may also work with the art department to design promotional graphics!

[Optional, Vacant] Scripting – There´s an outstanding community of java-
scripters out there creating powerful plugins for the engine. In our pre-production, we agreed that we might not need specific scripts to be made, but if you´d want to try your hand and get to know Interlight, I´m sure we can benefit from it!

So, want to be part of Interlight? Do you have any of these talents and would want to hop in, starting on a project handled by people with experience in game development? We are waiting for you!
Here´s what you get;

• A cut, IF the game goes commercial, based around an agreed percentage;

• Access to helpers and devs from around the world to assist you in your own projects;

• A chance to work towards the crafts you aim to have with the RPG Maker team or the greater Studio;

• A part of a, paraphrasing Rich Burlew, band of Quasi-Trained Semi-professionals in developing an RPG Maker game and further projects!

And these are your duties:

• Declare a weekly hour quota that you EXPECT to be able to provide for us;

• Stick to a NDA contract;

• Maintain a firm communication with the team, keeping in mind to give notice for any extended absence.

• Bonus points if you have the engine!
