No, this is not a trailer, this is the game!

Wunderkind, a QTE based game on YouTube using the annotation system to perform the actions. The idea came about when I noticed that there are a lot of interactive games on YouTube but the majority of them, if not all of them, were of the choose-your-own-adventure style, which is just fine, but I felt that the annotation system could be enough to make a QTE style game. Well, that may not be the case.

Apparently there are some limitations to the annotation system that I didn't think about only to discover them when I uploaded the vid. These include that annotations are forced a minimum of 1 second to be displayed and that things get pretty hectic if you are jumping from one place to another every second or so. I had to tweak the system a little bit such as having a 1 second delay before the next clip is played and having the player go to the end of the video to load up all the annotations. At least I think that works in some way.

Regardless, the game should play well, but how do you play this game on YouTube? Well if you don't know QTE is, it's that gameplay system where you have to push a button when prompted only here you click on an annotation when it appears to go to another scene. There are three colors to be aware of, red to attack, yellow to dodge, and blue you must avoid.

So far only the first chapter has been created but the next chapter shall arrive in about 2 weeks due to the absurd amount of work required. Drawing each slide takes like a hour so I have a bunch of work ahead of me, and next time I will not smash it up all up into a 3 hour video. I figure that is the reason why the annotations are going nuts. Next time each chapter will be split up into parts, that should make the annotations happy.

And if you are wondering if I'm allowed to put such a game here on IndieDB, why yes I am. I contacted them and they said it's fine as long as I categorize it under web as a platform.

This first chapter contains 64 slides that took me a month to draw. Here are a few of them. You can check out a higher resolution version of them in the image section.
