UFO Screenshots
It is the year 2084. You control a secret organisation charged with
defending Earth from a brutal alien enemy. Build up your bases, prepare
your team, and dive head-first into the fast and flowing turn-based

UFO: ALIEN INVASION is a squad-based tactical
strategy game in the tradition of the old X-COM PC games, but with a
twist. Our game combines military realism with hard science-fiction and
the weirdness of an alien invasion. The carefully constructed
turn-based system gives you pin-point control of your squad while
maintaining a sense of pace and danger.

Over the long term you will need to conduct
research into the alien threat to figure out their mysterious goals and
use their powerful weapons for your own ends. You will produce unique
items and use them in combat against your enemies. If you like, you can
even use them against your friends with our multiplayer functionality.

'UFO: Alien Invasion'. Endless hours of gameplay -- absolutely free.

The game takes a lot of inspiration from the X-COM series by Mythos and
Microprose. However, it's neither a sequel nor a remake of any X-COM or
other commercial title. What we as a team wanted to make is a brand new
experience that tries to surpass the quality of games from 1992, rather
than simply recreate them with flashier graphics.

We also believe that open-source projects don't
need to be disorganised or badly-managed. We work together in a
friendly and professional way, with a clear vision for a game that we
know is worth playing.

A new game I'm working on is now available for Android. If you like the game, please rate it.

CaveExpress is a classic 2D platformer with physics-based gameplay and dozens of levels. Master your pedal-powered flying machine to pick up packages from your cave-dwelling clients and drop them off
at the collection point. But beware! Mighty mastodons, terrifying pterodactyls and others would rather see you extinct.

I'm also working on a Windows version released on Desura. It will be available soon.

Any plans to move from 2.3.1 amd64 for linux to later versions here on desura anytime soon? I only see 2.4 and thats for windows. Yet in my repos for Fedora I see 2.4.1. I like the idea of showing support via desura to know us Linux users are out here but Im perfectly fine with just using the repo download or using the source directly. Whatever the case, just want to also again reiterate, great game, great work, please keep it up and if you ever decide to look for funding you got it from me.

Perhaps one thing to note is the repos version of 2.4.1, for me, no text from intro or mail, etc appears. For example, the introduction text shows as "intro_sentence_1" 2 3 etc. Mail is blank with blank icons and so forth.

Im in Fedora but make sure you have all your SDL packages insatlled. Also try running it from the terminal and see what error message it gives you. That should provide a good idea of what you might be missing.

I have tried this game a few days ago.

In the original commercial game, it was possible to make saves during tactical play (any land battles).
In the remake, the difficulty from the original game is maintained, BUT you cannot save there which effectively increases the difficulty by a large factor.
What it means is that when a drastic mishap occured (which does happen fairly frequently, true to the original on that), in the original game you could fall back on a save from a few turns before, while in this version you have to restart from landing in such case.

Complete non-starter for me, uninstalled until that critical issue is addressed.

The nature of XCom to me is similar to that of dwarf fortress, where even losing is fun. I enjoy the level of difficulty personally, I find that when a game allows me to save whenever I want, I instinctively try to "savescum" to revert the misfortune that's befallen me, and in the process I end up learning the game slower and playing worse. I respect your opinion, but unfortunately you seem to be in the minority in that regard.

Any idea for when the base attacks will be updated so you can lift aircraft and/or cut the power?
I'm just curious. :)

It's planned for "the future", but it won't make it into 2.5. So... not soon.
