Turbo Run is an arcade style racing game taking strong influence from classic arcade games from the 80s and 90s.

Turbo Run is close to alpha, watch the latest progress.

Posted by on

With the cars driving physics in a playable state, and the first real track implemented, Turbo Run is finally shaping up into the game I had envisioned last spring. The track still needs some minor tweaks to allow smooth game play, and some more eye candy to break up the constant green scenery, but it came together quite well. While I make revisions to the track, AI opponents are next on the list programming wise. Path finding and avoidance for normal street traffic a swell as rival cars is already underway; aggressive police units soon after.

You can only drift or can turn the car a bit more realistic in the later releases?

It's supposed to be styled like the 80s d00d.

The way the cars handle may change slightly to be lest drift prone, but its still going to be very arcade influenced.

There seem to be a lot of people here that never played an arcade racing game. In the 80's there was no 3D, so you could only shift the action on two or more layers. Outrun, e.g. might have been an inspiration for Turbo Run.

I've been loving this from the start and the way you are creating all aspects of that (retro) gameplay inside a 3D engine is very accurate. I didn't even figure it would play exactly like one of those games, until I saw the actual demo. It's something really special and a great choice of design.

It looks like it could be really fun but the camera needs a bit of work in my opinion. There's a few corners that you can't really see enough of to approach and adjust because of the camera. It even looked in the video like you were experiencing that problem.

Other than that looks amazing!

This is very true, we're already working on a different camera setup.

does it use cell-shading animations? what resolutions are supported?

There are no shaders being used, all of the models are fully self illuminated. Any shading you see is from the textures.

Lovely and simple, nice retro graphics, very Outrun-esque overall.

You should add some key features to each track, to make them easily recognizable.
