When we integrate Steam into our next update, players will require Steam installed on their computer to play. Steam is a free service and is meant for players to play together on a central platform (Compare to Xbox Live or the Playstation Network) and is also a digital marketplace. In the next update, players will simply need to install the game (and Steam, if they do not have it) and they will be able to host and join online games, even behind a non-forwarded port. (Split Screen will still be permitted.)
Adding Multiplayer support over Steam in our next beta to see its stability, and to allow players of betas to play online and not just over LAN.
