Shuta is an online multiplayer strategy shooter heavily inspired by SUPERHOT and Toribash.

What surprised me the most when I played SUPERHOT for the first time is how it takes shooter games to the next level. It effectively turns a fast-paced genre into a slow yet action-packed game where you have to think of new strategies to win, not just shoot around.

#MAKEITSUPERHOT was an opportunity for me to think about new barriers to break in video gaming. I first thought about making an online version of SUPERHOT, but realised the time-shifting mechanic wouldn't work as well as it does in the original single-player game. I then remembered Toribash, another innovative game that consists in strategy/physics-based fighting.
I asked myself if we could merge those mechanics together, and thus I made this little prototype called Shuta over the week.

Shuta is a shooter that essentially consists in taking advantage of turn-based mechanics to plan your actions and defeat your opponents. For now, it is multiplayer-only. Single-player against AIs will be implemented in a future update.

How to play

Navigate the menu with your mouse and the Escape key to cancel an action/go back (temporary)

Once you're in game and playing, you need to make an action and then press space to confirm your turn.

Right now, you can make only one action per turn.

Actions

left click - Shoot

right click - Move

There is also an in-game chat, once you're in a room press Enter to toggle it and start typing.

Installation instructions

OSX - Unzip shuta_OSX.zip and open Shuta.app

Windows - Unzip shuta_x32.zip and open Shuta.exe

Warning, this is my first online game ever, there's probably a lot of bugs left. I did my best to fix the ones I found, but if the game or the server ever crashes (couldn't connect to server), please ping me on Twitter @Ulydev and I'll get it back up ASAP. Thanks for reading!

You can play around with the code thanks to the simple workflow.

Just run `love server`, `love client`, then `./build.sh`. That's it!

Feedback and bug reports are very appreciated, and I'll do my best to consider and implement your suggestions and ideas.

Thank you in advance for your help!
