Shadow Racers is an arcade style 3D racing game we're developing for XBLIG, WP7, iPad and iPhone. The game contains 15 distinct vehicles for you to race and we've also added the ability to change many aspects of your cars performance and appearance for those people that like to fiddle with such settings.

The game contains a few environments in which the player can perform these customizations. One of these is the garage. In the garage the player can buy upgrades for their cars which include tire options, engine upgrades, nitrous canisters and handling upgrades.

In the garage you can also re-paint your car, choosing a new colour and a new type of paint. The video below shows us testing the paint selection screen with a few of the cars that feature in the game:

We're working to improve all aspects of the game's user interface and we're hoping to make this game one of the best looking and most fun games to play on XBLIG.

Next up, we'll be posting a video of the same environment and paint selection screen from the WP7 version of Shadow Racers which is also in-development right now! *

* Note that the video is showing the Xbox 360 version of the game.

Looks nice so far! Would the music in the video be something we could expect in-game? It almost sounds like a throwback to the 8bit arcade racing music of the past, but with updated samples.

Yes, that track is the title track for the game. We only have to tracks mastered so far but expect to get a few more done in the next few months before release.

And of course "for all ages" is going to mean a fuckton of swearing just with one letter replaced I assume?

Sorry? The game contains no swearing what-so-ever. The game has been designed with multiple control modes:

Simplistic - Designed for children, the car automatically shifts gears and the handling is much less realistic (the car does not drift as much and turns much more responsively). The other cars will also slow down if they get too far ahead, this is aimed at younger players.

Automatic - Standard automatic setting you see in most games. Uses the proper physics for the car but gear shifting is handled automatically.

Manual - The same as automatic except you also must shift gears yourself while driving (better in many cases for the drift points to drive in manual mode).

Thanks, but the current screenshots posted are not from the iPhone version of the game. They are from the Xbox 360 version of the game.

The iPhone version uses pre-generated shadow maps and a simpler lighting engine and thus will not look quite as good as the Xbox 360 version but we're still aiming to get it looking as good as we can!
