Infection: Last Rites is an episodic single-player-focused Action Horror/Survival Horror FPS game. Episode 1: "DNA" is set approximately 40 years in the future, the game offers a unique mature twist on the zombie genre - this is not the start of the outbreak, this is what happens next, when everything has been all but wiped out. Military trained, custom equipped and experienced at fighting the Infected, you are one of the few taking the risk that keep the remaining survivors alive. The finished game will feature separate, instantly selectable Action Horror and Survival Horror modes, allowing players to experience the play style they prefer.

Bought this today because of the good reviews, because it looked good, fun, and I like the genre. That said, there are a couple of things that I found in this alpha so far.
First, the movement ALWAYS over stepped. Any direction, as soon as I stopped pushing the key it would keep going for 1-2 steps. That made it very difficult to move over to things like backpacks.
Next, there are several problems with keybinds. I would rebind an action only to have it not work at all. For instance I mapped one of my mouse's thumb buttons (MB4) to Melee, but it never worked. I always had to push E. As far as I could thell the Quicksave (F9) only worked once, and would not work again.
There are two things about the aiming. First is that I would really love to be able to quick-aim with RMB instead of toggle. It is extremely difficult for some reason to "un-toggle" it when you have a couple zombies creep up on you. Also, when I would aim it would be in an almost random spot near the zombie I was shooting, relative to where I was shooting it. For instance, if I had the crosshairs on a zombies head and I clicked RMB, I would expect the crosshairs to still be on his head. That was not always the case. Sometimes it would be on his chest, or left or right of his head, etc. In the end I pretty much gave up on aiming at all.
Lastly, I would love to be able to use a gamepad with this. Any chance of that? :-)

Also, and I hope I don't get ridiculed for this, I would like to see the intro section a bit easier, so that it would be easier to get my bearings. I died a million times before I quit in frustration. All of the control and binding flaws may have been something I could have dealt with and/or overcame, but I never got a chance to try really. If I moved a bit trying to get used to the over stepping, all of a sudden I had 5-10 fast moving zombies running at me. The first hour I ever had with this game was a mix of changing control scheme and graphics options trying to get them to work correctly and running backwards shooting until all my ammo was gone and/or cursing at the way the scope would be placed randomly near where I was originally aiming.

I think this game has GREAT potential. If I didn't, I very honestly would not have come back here to complain. I would have just quit it and never picked it up again, or wait 4-5 months and try again. But I am letting you guys know my thoughts, because isn't that what an alpha and beta are for? So that the people testing the game can pick at it's flaws and make it a better game? So trust me when I say, I don't complain about every alpha or beta I play, only the ones I want to play again :-)

OH! Last thing, I swear!
When, in my frustration when I went to quit the game, I hit "Save & Quit" to see if there was maybe an "Easy" mode where I could get used to the controls (for anyone reading this.... there isn't), and when I started a new game (I don't remember a gazillion zombees running at me in the first minute or two, so wanted to start again)... it crashed completely.

thanks for the linux port.. superb work and nice game.
few bugs though:
*im using nvidias twinview (primary monitor 1920x1080) and secondary 1280x1024, game spanned over both of them(though second screen didnt show anything) at the first start by having 3200x1080 resolution.. had to tweak it from config files because the menu was hidden and not entirely shown.
*second bug is that it seems Anti Aliasing doesnt seem to work at all, no matter what setting is set from the options.

also i would like to see a separate mouse sensitivity slider for aimed down (iron sight) sight.
atm its the same speed which is quite annoying, cause i like super sensitive mouse.. but when i aim down i'd like to have it less sensitive.

Keep up the Work!

Hi Xpander69,

You're welcome, good to hear you're enjoying it :)

I'll look into the multiple monitor issue - I have some theories about what's causing it, I'll see what I can do. The antialiasing issue is puzzling though. Can you tell me more about the system you're running the game on, so I can try to recreate the problem on my end?

A separate slider for the mouse sensitivity while aiming shouldn't be a problem… it's on our to-do list, though I can't make any promises as to when it will be done. The to-do list is quite long ;-)

also i think the anti aliasing issue might be related to the dualmonitor problem.
i will try to give a shot at it with one monitor disabled if i get more time.
