Difficult, but tactically satisfying physics based smasher.

Hammerfall has you flying a wooden box, chained to a variety of weaponry of various weights. The key here is the physics. Momentum, inertia and mechanics are all properly represented which makes the game amazingly difficult, since your craft is so light. The sounds and 2D visuals are perfectly appropriate for the eastern feel of the game, and the connection of the various weaponry with metal or squishy enemies is oh-so satisfying.

One early tip is to reduce the DPI setting of your mouse (in game) to 100-200 to make your movements super-sensitive, but the game is relentless in its difficulty until you unlock some of the cooler flails. Alternative game mods such as Arena or Grim (hunting bugs) let you build up your money or rank, allowing you to buy new weapons and even upgrade them with gems found in Grim.

The story itself is curiously translated from Russian, but makes the game enjoyable enough, and with several endings and paths with rewards it will have you going for long enough to get into the game. Arena and the other game modes will keep you going after you finish the main game, as it is not replayable with the same profile.

Overall hammerfight is a curiously addictive and decently challenging game. It is worth playing the demo beforehand, and is also present in the Humble indie bundle 3 for good value.

One of my favourite games of all time.

First heard of it back when it was still called 'Hammerfall' then didn't hear of it again until much later when it was part of the humble bundle.

Fantastic physics, and surprisingly deep gameplay make this one of the most satisfying games I've played. There's something profoundly exciting about landing that perfect hit on your enemy. The controls can take some getting used to, but once you get the hang of them they feel extremely sharp.

The only issues I take with the game are that the unlocks aren't explained very well, and that earning gems becomes increasingly difficult after a few runs through the hunt.

Great artwork, sound design, controls, gameplay, everything.

Hammerfight is unique and has a lot of depth to it. I played through it nearly a dozen times and still havent unlocked everything. The combat mechanics are FUN and intuative. Definitely recommend this game to anyone, casual or hardcore players alike! :D

+ story, music, upgrades, native Linux version

A hidden gem, this one. It took some getting used to but is literally one of my favorite games I have played in a while. Such a beautiful setting, rich with lore beyond most franchises these days (albiet lacking in the actual storyline). Not to mention is wonderful and unique style of combat, which is actually challenging.
I just adore every thing about this game.

And the music... oh, the music. <3

Video Game GEM!
This is a masterpiece of indepentent video games.
Can't start about all i did like, it is too much,
