A point-and-tap adventure game for the iPad, set in the near future, where collecting evidence against cybernetically enhanced gangsters is a race for justice and survival. This is Broken Sword meets Blade Runner. Love Crime Scene Investigation and police procedurals? Take that 60 years into the future with Erin Cole and the officers of the Ethics Executive, in EthEx2080.

This game has been keeping me up at night for over a decade. Now its slated for release at the end of 2013. What is it about EthEx2080 that is so compelling?...

Allfather - thanks for the comments but:

Its a graphical game, not a text based game.

Its not for the PC, its for the iPad.

The artwork is "for now". I'm not going to post final artwork 6 months before the game is released.

Will I get a professional artist in? Most likely, but I have to prove the game works at all first, and for that I need at least some animated artwork.

"With today's advanced games..." - on the iPad? Broken Sword is still selling well. If McPixel and games like Tipping Point can do well, with that level of self-authored artwork I think I'm going just fine.

A decade...? Even a small indie development team could create an entire game in the 2D cartoonish format shown here within 2 months. As an indie developer myself, I can tell you very seriously that "2D text based adventure games" for the PC are destined for rubbish pile (also known as some generic free online flash game website). Now, the same game for a smartphone could possibly amount to something, but you'd better find yourself a graphics designer/animator. In the gaming world, video games are nearly always judged by their covers. You might have the most intense, detailed, and well-thought-up "2D text based adventure game" of the century, yet without proper graphical detail (because your art is obviously not currently a particular 'style' such as intentionally low-poly/few-pixel games such as Minecraft, Terraria, etc) it would likely see little of the attention it deserves. With today's advanced games and equally sophisticated gamers, I personally can't take an idea like this seriously. But if you feel this will project will earn you success, I wish you good luck.

I get that your comment is meant to be constructive criticism, or at least assume so but you come across as a bit of a know-it-all ****.

You're not 'King Notch' himself, your self proclamation as an indie developer (with seemingly no released content) will impress no one on a site that at least half the people who use it are also indie devs in some form.

Not every game is made to please you and your specific preferred art style. Get over it.

:-) that's my crappy artwork -- It's vector art so I'm either going to improve it a lot, or get a pro artist to do the real thing

Hey - thanks for the vote of confidence. Its much appreciated. :-)

I'm working really hard right now to get the first playable beta of the game done, so I hope to post more updates here soon. For now I just put up a wip render. More to come!
