Empires in Ruins - Archery-based towers
Empires in Ruins combat maps are based at their core on a Tower Defense engine. The engine is there further extended in the direction of RTS games, with builders, fighting soldiers and further features, but towers constitute the foundation of the gameplay.
As the other two categories of Towers, Artillery and Magic are still under design and implementation, let us take a look at the ones already fully available on the downloadable alpha: Guards (Basic), Composite Bow (Intermediate), Crossbow (Intermediate), Rangers (Advanced), Sniper (Advanced) and Repeating Crossbow (Advanced) (In the picture below, from the top-down, left to right)
Basic towers have no access to special abilities, a maximum experience level cap of 3 and the main statistics (Damage, Range, Fire Rate) can receive 2 upgrades.
Intermediate towers have access to 3 special abilities, a maximum experience level cap of 5 and the main statistics (Damage, Range, Fire Rate) can receive 4 upgrades.
Advanced towers have access to 5 special abilities, a maximum experience level cap of 10 and the main statistics (Damage, Range, Fire Rate) can receive 5 upgrades.
Archery towers constitute the basics of the Koth army military defenses. The following screens are taking directly from the ingame towers encyclopedia and fully integrated in the available alpha.
Additionally to the Archery towers, two more towers have also already been implemented, although still partly incomplete in terms of graphics : Catapult (Base level of the artillery towers, still not animated in game) and Scouts (Sole way to detect the incoming waves of enemies, unlocked the Scouting report panel, still with a temporary placeholder graphics)
