Boden Project Building Breakdown - Part 2
This the second installment of the exploration of the range of buildings available for you, the steward of a Project, to construct in order to achieve your goal.
In previous articles we covered the different land based Food buildings and how they are utilised (available to read here, Indiedb.com). This article will cover the Food building opportunities available on water.
Rice Fields
The standard Food Building on Water is the Rice Field. Rice Fields are the basic food generator on water and also form the basis of all upgrades on water, as a Rice Field is needed to invest into new branches of food generation on water tiles.
The Rice Field starts with a central building and paddy, and it gains more paddies and structures as it gets upgraded. It shares the same stats with the Wheat Farm, starting at Level 1 outputting 1 Food, and level 7 produces 7 Food.
Much like a Wheat Farm, a Rice Field consumes more Power the higher its level, so at its maximum, a Rice Field consumes 7 Power.
When the Rice Field hits level 3, Conversions are available.
Fish Farms
The first conversion is a Fish Farm. A step up from Rice Fields, Fish Farms provide a net boost to your Food output. Converting a Rice Field to a Fish Farm instantly starts at level 3 and provides a +1 boost to Food output, which scales as the Fish Farm upgrades. This conversion does have a drawback. Unlike its land counterparts, Fish Farms don’t produce a lot of heat, but instead consume Materials. So a level 3 Fish Farm will reduce the Material Budget by 1. This deficit will increase by 1 for each level the Fish Farm increases.
A maximum level Fish Farm (Level 7) will produce 8 Food, consume 8 Power, and restrict the Material Budget by -5.
Hydroponics Centre
The second conversion is a Hydroponics Centre. A step up from Rice Fields, Hydroponics Centres provide a net boost to your Food output. Converting a Rice Field to a Hydroponics Centre instantly starts at level 3 and provides a +1 boost to Food output, which scales as the Hydroponics Centre upgrades. This conversion does have a drawback. Unlike its land counterparts, Hydroponics Centres don’t produce a lot of heat, but instead consume Science. So a level 3 Hydroponics Centre will reduce the Science Budget by 1. This deficit will increase by 1 for each level the Hydroponics Centre increases.
A maximum level Hydroponics Centre (Level 7) will produce 8 Food, consume 8 Power, and restrict the Science Budget by -5.
That is the last of the food upgrades available, but there are still other resources to cover, including power, materials, science, and happiness. The next article will cover Power buildings.
