So i'm finally finishing up my new pc but i wont have a gpu for a few months. I was therefore wondering how easy is it to go from UDK to UE4.

I have put off development for my game for a couple months now in hopes of switching the engine from Unity to Unreal 4 but i would like to start soon without putting development off for longer. I figured that going from UDK to UE4 with a project would be easy and starting development in UDK would be the best thing to do. So, how easy does UE4 make this switch?

It's this easy |----------|

But seriously, you'll have a head start if you know UDK well. They also have expansive online resources to help you navigate UE4.

Good luck!

UDK has a different grid setting and works with power of two (256x256) units, etc. Of course this can all be used in Unreal 4 too, but makes it unnecessary complicated. (In U4 1 Unit=1cm, in UDK 1 Unit =2 cm).

I don't get what you are asking for here. If you prototype it in UDK you have to create the entire project again in Unreal 4, which is stupid. If you are just asking about if the models you create will work in Unreal 4, duh - yeah. They work even better in U4, I'd say, as it's been easier to work with than UDK, so far. I'd suggest you just don't use an engine at all for the time being. Prepare your game (structure, naming conventions, etc), do the design work, write a doc, make some models or blockouts, but don't put it in-engine, yet. If you start putting stuff in UDK now, you'll have to do it all again when you switch to Unreal 4.

I've been planning the game few the past few months now and feel i'm ready to get the project rolling. I asked because i have frequently heard that it was easy to make the switch, however mixed responses have made me question the legitimacy of these statements.

If you suggest that i go straight into UE4 then i guess that'll be what i will do.

Thank you for your information regarding the differences.
