Title says it all!

What qualities do you look for in a good platformer? Is there any one thing that makes you want to play a platformer or is there a swatch of features that you want to see in a game?

Maximum(quickiest) response from input and pixel perfect colision

Sure! A good art also counts a lot , after all the most memorables plataforms had distinctives art.

I typically get slack for this from other developers but as a primarily console gamer, controls will make or break your game for me. Keep in mind that I learned how to platform from the likes of Super Mario Bros., Sonic, and Metroid. If the jump and run buttons are switched it's going to be the only thing I think about. You can have a great story and gameplay mechanics but if the control scheme doesn't mix with what I'm use to it's going to be a bad play through.

I too agree that the controls are very important. However, I don't like pixel perfect collision, because it just feels unfair, since your hand-eye-coordination has a little delay. For that part, I suggest to do lots of usability tests and see what the people think feels best.

I would like
-Fun
-Level Design
-Realistic objectives
-No fetch quests
-Simplified combat that isn't too violent but isn't too childish
-Puzzles
-Good art style
-Good character attributes and abilities
-Collision detection
