I wanted to create a game like the stalker series, does it take much effort to create games like stalker? I have a high-end computer which can run the newest games on ultra 1080p, but my programming skills aren't pro. I were thinking on using unreal engine to make games, and autodesk 3d to modell. Can i make it alone, or should i team up with more experienced programmers? :)

Also i will add extra softwares for making the game

You should definitly team up with somone. You should first and foremost try to write up some kind of a ground plan before starting the development of your dream game. Look at some tutorials in relation to working with the Unreal Engine 4. But, I think you should actually think of some realistic planning goals.

Games like STALKER are a combination of a traditional FPS and a complex RPG game like the Fallout series. Meaning it's very hard to create such a game especially in the programming department. Note that STALKER was created in a custom engine, the X-ray which was developed for the game itself. That means the company behind was highly competent.

You need more in a team than just the programmers, espcially if you are planning a commerical project.

ok, thank you for your answers. Do you need much programming knowledge for creating such games?

A game like stalker would be a pretty monster project.

I recommend breaking the game down into smaller separate games and build those one at a time.
A breakdown of a game like stalker would look something like this;

* First Person Shooter
* Plus - First Person Adventure
* Plus - First Person Stealther
* Plus - First Person RPG

You would treat each as a separate and completed game.
This will make each project manageable, give you a sense of achievement after completing each one, and prevent the risk of you ending up with one big unfinished mess that you cant show anyone.

To answer your 'programming knowledge' question: Yes, usually to create a decent game with more mechanics than simply moving and shooting, especially in 3D, you do require a fair amount of programming knowledge. I believe there are a few engines that allow 'graphical programming', but from my experience you will run into the limitations of not using a 'real' programming language rather sooner than later.

A noble goal, since the STALKER team seems to have died out and it was a grand series. Word of warning though, when untalented programmers and project managers come together to steal the basis for STALKER it will end up looking like the METRO series heh.

To be honest, the custom engine the game was built around was riddled with issues from release to now. The only descent game engines that might do for a good FPSRPG are the ones used to develop games like the Elder Scrolls series or Fallout series from Bathesda. Wish Bathesda would develop a new STALKER game, would probably be another legendary title under their belt.

Even if you can get your hands on their engine, the IP rights to STALKER, and a computer that can run the development tools ... you will still need a pro team because you still need graphics (modeling and FMV sequences take a ton of work), audio, engine specific expert to coordinate efforts and debug, story narrative writer (probably you), database coder who can crunch number and fill up the items list without unbalancing the game play experience (good games have sizable item databases so this might take more work than the engine specific pro can handle in a timely fashion), and at least a few experienced testers who can provide constructive feedback instead of the gaggle of 12 year old kids out there who want in early on a game then nerd rage because it's not a polished finished release that should cost big money to buy (run on sentence FTW).

I'm sure I have missed a few finer points, but heck if all that seems doable to you then I shall send every best wish your way mate because the gaming community would be far better off if you were to see your dream to fruition!
