My team is currently developing an innovative, vast and immersive fantasy scifi MMORPG which will be free to play but will involve in game microtransactions. It is currently in alpha stage. We cannot pay for the music because we have already invested a great deal on the art, programming, game design and other expenses. We require approximately 20 looped background music, between 1 to 3 minutes in length. The composer must also agree to give away all rights to whatever they compose. In return they will be credited in the game which may be of great value and exposure to them in the situation our game becomes popular. Further information cannot be disclosed unless a NDA is signed (which will only be sent to shortlisted candidates). Please send us samples of your work via this form and how we can contact you. Deadline for applications is 13 April 2015Goo.gl

60 minutes of music is quite a lot of music to make without any form of backend payment or upfront sales. I hope that no one is willing to do that much for free. Don't sell yourself short.

No, its not 60 minutes of music. Read the post again. Its less than 3 mins. Maximum IS 3 mins. So even 20 mins is acceptable as long as songs are good and loopable.

And just for clarification. DEADLINE FOR APPLICATIONS IS APRIL 13th.

No way would we expect a full soundtrack to be done in less than 2 weeks!

My main issue is with signing away all rights to a piece of music without compensation other than possible fame. Ability to sell the soundtrack after launch or after a number of units sold they get payment is a more common, fair method. Given the units may not work due to the F2P and microtransactional nature. 20 minutes of good music could take well over a week to make, especially for non-professional composers. I am not looking to apply for it, but trying to help you understand the amount of work you are asking for within a 2 week timeframe. I don't know how many, if any, applications you have gotten but you might get more of higher quality if there is an incentive beyond possible fame. Every indie project can offer that.

I don't often reply to ads like this, but this request is infuriating.

I completely agree with iCompose. This is a ridiculous request and completely demeaning to composers. I'm sorry you felt like art, programming, & game design were more valuable to your game than music, but that doesn't make it appropriate to now enslave a rising musician. You are not only requesting FREE music, but are also asking for the RIGHTS, which is the ONLY potential income stream for free projects (particularly with soundtrack sales). This proposition is worse than stealing. I sincerely hope no one applies for this. Composers beware.

Not to jump on a bandwagon, but I agree with iCompose and smelin.

Music is an incredibly important aspect to your game. Why would you parse no budget to it, and eliminate the composers right to income later for their work? Seems a little on the sleazy side to me... I feel like you're taking advantage of composer's desperation so that you can make a quick buck.

I'm not here to bash you (right now), I'm genuinely curious... why are you asking the composer to "give away all rights"? I realize you don't have the money for a buy out but why do you need exclusive rights?
