Okay, so im no programming guru,genius, or whatever they call them selves.
I am getting really good with java. *And by really good, i mean i can make a little program that manipulates variables and postincrements and all that shazzle XD*

I'm wanting to become an indie game developer, i have a few friends that will help after i create a few games.
I don't know where to start, C++ is good, but i have alot more Java Experience. I am currently reading two books about java, go figure.
Anyways, i came here to this fourm cause my friend told me that people could help me if i ask some questions, so here they are :D .

1. Should I Learn To Program C++ or Java?

2. Should I Program On Mac Or PC? ( I have a gaming pc, and a macbook pro )

3. Recomendations on books/websites/online tutorials on C++ or Java PLEASE ! :O

4. Where do i start?

3. Any idea on what i should do with my 1,2,3,4,5 problem?

5. Fixed it. ......Wait

1. Depends what kind of game you want to make. If you're just making 2d platformers or 2d rpgs, Java should be fine. Stick with Java. There's no real point in learning C++ for simpler games(in my opinion, and I'm fluent in C++ and Java so I have an opinion). If you want to make 3d games or games that use a lot of resources you could go for C++, and since you already know Java you shouldn't have too much trouble with C++. Plus multiplayer in Java is easy peasy, and you can embed Java in a browser. Just a few nice things. ;-) Nothing against C++ I love C++

2. I don't have a Mac, never used a Mac, can't afford a Mac, so PC!

@bugbytemike:
He could embed Java in the browser, but of course he's a good citizen and won't. If there never were any Java browser applets, the Internet would have been a safer place. :D

Anyway, I generally second what he said.
If you want to make simple games, you can go with Java or something along those lines. You can also work with Unity (C# - which is very, very similar to Java) or some similar engine.

I would prefer Java especially when LibGDX is around. Java is portable, you can write code once and they you can deploy your application to all platforms, even anroid phones and now with the help of LibGDX, you can deploy your games for Desktop, Android, HTML and even iOS.

Learn C - Amazon.com
(really thin and straight-to-the-point -kinda book. This is the legendary book ppl always recommend)
Then do the Unity C# tutorials - Unity3d.com

You can learn C/C# in a month with your previous experience.

@TheSniperFan:
Yeah, I agree. Not a huge fan of embedded Java applets, but sometimes they're nice to use. Example: Alot of my relatives/friends aren't very tech savy, and so they're not really sure how to unzip a .zip file and run the.jar, so it's a little easier to just send a link in an email to my site with an embedded Java applet. :P
