Back in the day, Lothar and Perfect Cell created the intriguing Diablo II Lord of Destruction mod Eastern Sun. Aside from things like stash, cube, and backpack size increases, it had Henchgear to increase the shelf life of your hirelings, kanji-based Runewords, vastly increased and improved recipe systems..

It's still one of the classiest mods today, thanks to no small degree by Tsui picking up the reins from the original modders and integrating PlugY and updating compatibility all the way to 1.13c!!

There is, however, one severe issue that had a point back when but is pointless nowadays. I refer to the CD-detection..

Oh, yeah, any of you who have played Eastern Sun are expecting a rant. Sorry, it's not going to happen. What I am going to give you, however, is a point by point breakdown of its worth before and its worthlessness now.

BACK THEN:

Detecting the CD helped prevent bootleg players from using the mod. As Lothar and Perfect Cell had every right to disallow bootleg players from using their mod, that was fine. It's completely understandable, even. That said, many things have changed. Its overzealous detection did mean that any no-CD game prevented Eastern Sun from starting, but that was just a bonus in slowing bootleg gaming.. then.

WHAT HAS CHANGED:

1) Blizzard has Lord of Destruction and Diablo II rigged to play without the CD.
2) Tablet computers don't have CD or DVD drives.
3) It is now probably more trouble to buy the discs than to obtain Diabloo II and Lord of Destruction by shareware or..
4) Online stores distributing games online without a CD.

WHERE WE STAND NOW:

The mod has been handed off, and is itself swapped about now. The game it is a mod of is CD-free and many, many games in the modern era of gaming do not use a physical CD, with newer varieties of computers not even accepting a physical CD and the most available stores (online services like Steam, Good Old Games, or Origin) not providing them.

In short, it's time to mod the mod and remove or at the very least severely improve the CD detection as it is now a literal game-breaking glitch for the modern gamer.

Thank you for your time.

Definitely worth talking to the mod developers about this, although Ive never known mods to have CD detection.

I know! It's weirder than that, it detects the use of any no-CD game. Which is the entire problem, given the legitimate games now used that don't have a CD.. including Diablo II and LoD. As I said, the only work-around at present is to restart your computer, and you have to do it after each occasion of playing a no-CD game if you want to start up Eastern Sun. I have tested this with Windows XP and Windows 7, and with various iterations of the mod.
